“Our work here is done. That shit destroyed everything. My club was nowhere near here tonight.”
Without hesitation, we rush to our motorcycles, climb on, and fire up the engines. The roar of our bikes is drowned out by the raging inferno blazing behind us. As we speed off in opposite directions I tip my head to Storm and he returns the gesture. Without looking back, we ride off into the dark night, leaving the gruesome scene behind. A relieving sense of satisfaction fills me as we ride away from the carnage. I finally got the revenge I’ve needed for so long.
All that’s left is to get Rayne on that plane with me. I’d asked her to meet me at the airport but it suddenly hit me she never said yes. A long time has passed and she has a life of her own. What if I don’t fit into her plans?
I shake off the doubt snuffing out the satisfaction I had only a short time ago. Rayne belongs with me and I know she feels that too. She’ll be there. I have to believe that.
Chapter 14

My tires eat up the pavement as we make our way to the airport. It’s after two in the morning when we pull into the airport parking lot, the rumble of our engines loud enough to wake the dead. There’s a heaviness hanging in the air that’s gnawing at the pit of my stomach. Spotting the Royal Bastards LA prospect waiting for us, we park the loaned bikes and toss him the keys.
While Chainz thanks him for the hospitality, I slip away from my brothers, scanning the tarmac for Rayne. It’s desolate and dark but I can’t miss the fact that she’s not here. My heart sinks in my chest, the feeling surprising me. Now that I’ve gotten my revenge, my future is nothing without her. We cross the tarmac toward the private jet waiting to take us back to our lives but my feet slow, a heavy decision pulling me down.
Chainz notices my hesitation and pulls me aside,“You’re not getting on this plane are you?”
I rub the back of my neck, struggling to find the right words. Fate brought us back together and I can’t leave withouther. One night will never be enough to satisfy the ever growing hunger I have for her.“I can’t leave without her.”
Chainz claps my shoulder, his grip reassuring. "You know where you belong, but I get it. Go get her. Just make it quick."
“Thanks, Prez.”
“Don’t thank me, just get your ass back fast. I don’t want to be here any longer than we have to.”
Relief floods over me as he gives me the green light. I reclaim a bike from the prospect, its weight solid beneath me, and rev the engine. The roaring sound matches the determination in my heart as I race away from the hangar.
With each mile, my thoughts race even faster. Finding her again was a twist of fate, and now, I can't imagine letting her go. Rayne has never been one for words but I saw it in her eyes, I felt it in her touch. Her feelings for me are as strong today as they were seven years ago when I was too young and dumb to fight for her. This time there’s nothing to stop me. Hawk no longer stands in our way and I’ll be damned if I’m going to pussy out again from claiming what I need.
The neon lights flicker overhead as I pull up to her bar. My heart is pounding in my chest, my head spinning with a million arguments why we should be together. I'm determined to convince her she belongs with me, no matter the cost. I never meant to uproot her life, but now that I've found her again, I won't let her go. It’s busy tonight and strikes me as odd that the bouncer isn’t at his post by the door. I push through the doors and my eyes dart around the crowd. The bouncer is struggling to break up a fight. I move toward him, coming up behind the oversized trucker stirring up shit at the pool table. I reach out and grab the man by his arm, twisting it behind his back and slamming him down on the pool table.
“Can’t read dickhead? No fighting and no weapons.” I remove the gun sticking out of the low hanging waistband of hisjeans as he’s bent over the pool table and yank the man back up. “Get the fuck out.”
Shuffling him toward the door with the bouncer close behind me, I push the trucker outside letting the cool night air slap him in the face to sober him up. “Sober up and then come back to claim this.”
The man grunts and stumbles toward me then thinks better of it and wobbles off into the parking lot, hopefully to sleep off the headache he’s going to have. The bouncer takes the gun from me and locks it in the safe. “Thanks man. I owe you one.”
“Have you seen Rayne?”
He looks at me blankly before shaking his head. "Not tonight."
Anxiety knots in my stomach and I head back inside with only one thing on my mind. Shoving my way through the crowd, I find Abby, ‘Where’s Rayne?”
Abby's brow furrows, confusion clouding her expression. "Isn't she with you?"
My anxiety spikes. "No, she's not. I thought she might be here."
Realization dawns in Abby's eyes. "She left early. Said she had something to take care of. I assumed that something was you.”
That nagging feeling in my gut returns. As panic rises in my throat, I demand her address from Abby. She scribbles it on a cocktail napkin and hands it to me. I’m quick to leave, texting Chainz as I go. Rayne is in trouble, I know it.
I'm back on the bike, the engine's growl now a determined roar. The streets blur as I race toward her house. Fate brought her back into my life, and I won't ignore that. I won't let her slip through my fingers again.
As I get closer to her house, the feeling in my gut only intensifies. This isn't right. With a sense of dread, I hop off the motorcycle and sprint up the drive. The front door is partially open, and I know something is wrong.
The door creaks open, darkness swallowing me. There’s signs of a struggle as I make my way inside. Images of Rayne dead among the debris flash through my head as I search room by room. I call out her name, desperation cracking my voice.
The knot in my gut tightens. I shove the haunting thoughts out of my mind and call out her name again. The silence that echoes back is deafening. I didn’t come all this way, to lose her now.
