I slip out of Cole’s arms and cross the room to grab my cell phone. I sit on a chair by the fireplace and open my email. I quickly type in the recipients email. I know my boss’s email by heart.
Dear Mr. Marcus Adams.
My fingers hover above the keyboard on the screen of my phone. This is it. My years of working for a goal I was never going to succeed are over. I can’t say I’m okay with my failure. I wish my cookies had been featured on television. I wish I’d been a contestant on Bake my Day.
My head slants in Cole’s direction. But I don’t want to spend another day away from him chasing a dream that will never come true.
I would like to let you know that I am resigning from my position ...
My fingers work fast to finish the letter and I send it without regret. I climb back into bed beside Cole, excited to spend tomorrow not leaving our suite until the Sugar Cookie Fundraiser.
Chapter Fourteen
COLE
––––––––
“IDON’T WANT YOU TOleave.” Her fingernails drag over my back, begging me to stay.
I kneel on the bed and kiss her. “If we’re going to fit in a couple more rounds, we need to get some food in you.”
“A couple more rounds before we leave.”
“Yes.” I brush my lips over hers. “One more right here in this bed.”
“Okay.”
“Then we have to shower for the event.”
“We do.”
“Might as well do it together.”
“Might as well.” She wraps her arms around my neck.
“Hold that thought.” I unwrap her arms and jog to the door. I snatch my shirt from the floor and pull it over my head as I hurry through the suite.
