“Simon, please.” Miranda turned back to him.

“Why would you risk it?” Curiosity wouldn’t let him leave it alone.

“I was serious about needing to lay low. This time we bit off a little more than we—”

“Shut.up.mate!” Charles said between clenched teeth.

Simon spared the male another look, the anger in Charles eyes swaying him no more than the desperation in Miranda’s. He knew the work that they did as part of the resistance. Some of it wasn’t legal, and there were times when avoiding law was the difference between life and death. He was no longer in that life, and he’d not let Miranda drag him back into it. He had too much to lose.

Simon shook his head and turned his back, walking over to the lawyer waiting at the door. “You can go in and consult with your client,” he told the anxious male.

Gavin was waiting for him on the other side of the door. “Did you ask about the traitor?”

“There is no traitor.” Simon let out an irritated sigh.

“Becca is missing.” Gavin changed the subject knowing his alpha well enough to know not to push.

“Missing?” She hadn’t answered his call this morning, but he had pushed it to the back of his mind, wanting to deal with Charles.

“I went in to check on her after I didn’t see her at breakfast. She hasn’t been answering her phone all morning.”

Nate walked up to them both, his face bunched into a scowl. “We finally found the car that hit Cali.”
