Hours later, coming out of the shower, Simon’s proposition was still circling Calita’s mind. He was a tempting man. He didn’t push, yet…somehow she knew he would give her but so long to make her decision. She sat on edge of the queen sized bed in her towel, applying lotion to her legs, wondering, not for the first time, why she even entertained his offer.

As she rubbed in the fragrant cream, she had to admit it was intriguing. That in and of itself was a good sign. Hormones she’d feared would lay forever dormant were flaring awake, all brought on by Simon’s offer. For three years her body had felt encased in ice. It felt good to have it finally come alive. Simon’s eyes made her body promises that she ached to explore. Was she ready for that?

The phone next to her bed started ringing and she glanced at the time with a frown. It was well after midnight. Who would call her this late?

“I don’t know if my ego can take this, Calita.” Simon’s deep voice teased her over the line.

She took a shuddering breath, her body warming. Well, that didn’t take long. She put the phone on speaker and walked over to the dresser drawers to get her clothes. “Do you have any idea what time it is?”

“I’m having a hard time sleeping.” His voice deepened. “I thought perhaps you could talk to me and help me sleep.”

She pulled on a pair of silk panties and smiled. “I don’t know, Simon. That sounds intimate, and an awful lot like strings,” she said, sliding on a tank top.

His seductive chuckle sent a wave of arousal through her body. “Maybe if you talk dirty to me it will still fit within my offer.”

She groaned. “I don’t know if I can do what you want, Simon.”

He hummed.

“I mean, I’m not the kind of person that can sleep with someone without emotions.”

Right? She’d never been the kind of person that enjoyed sex either way, so an affair wasn’t something she thought she’d ever be contemplating. She walked back to the bed and picked up the phone, leaning back against the padded headboard.

“You’re completely cutting men from your life?” Simon’s voice cut into her thoughts.

Calita sighed. “It’s just not a good time for men in my life.”

“That sounds like excuses. You forget I can tell what you’re feeling, so I know you want me. It seems you’re afraid to go after what you want.”

She scoffed. “You don’t know me, and I’m a grownup. My body doesn’t control me.”

“Now, that’s a shame. Especially since I saw how flushed you got, and the way your breath shortened when I touched you.” He sighed, a lustful sigh. “I know you want me.” His voice lowered, the rumble sending pulses to her center. “I dare you to go after what you want, Calita.”

Cali cursed his arrogance, and the truth of his words. “This isn’t high school, Simon, I’m not going to sleep with you because you dare me,” she sputtered.

He chuckled and her cursed body betrayed her. Moisture gathered between her legs.

“I dare you, Calita,” he taunted, his voice even lower, drawing her nipples to tight points. “I can be to your room in twenty minutes, I can be inside you in thirty.”

Cali barely suppressed a moan. “This is not a good idea, Simon,” her voice was husky, arousal threaded throughout.

“I think it’s a great idea. Say yes,” his voice was snatching away her common sense.

“No.”

“That didn’t sound convincing at all, are you wet Cali?”

“Is this you allowing me to set the pace?” She said instead. No way would she tell him something so personal.

“Touch yourself for me, Cali,” Simon cajoled, ignoring her question.

Her hands made the journey south before she even registered the movement.

“Twenty minutes, baby.”

Cali shook her head. She knew how far outside of town his ranch was, no way he was making that drive without breaking several speed limits. Her hands slid into her panties, touching the lips of her sex. If she could just stop the throbbing… Why should she deny herself?
