Chapter 30
Derrick stepped off the elevator smiling. He spied his mate fixing her hair, looking dazed as she came out of Carlos’ office. He chuckled, his erection filling out his pants. She nearly ran into his chest before she realized he was there. He grabbed her waist and smiled down at her. Carlos’ scent covered her.
“What have you been doing, Savi?”
Her eyes widened, a little guilty flicker over her shoulder. “I had a discussion with Carlos over my car.”
He wanted to laugh. He saw how well their discussion went. Her hair was falling out of her ponytail and her clothes were disheveled. Maybe he should admit his part in it, just to give him a chance to argue with her as well. He kissed her swollen lips, she moaned and melted into him. He loved the way she responded to him. She smelled of sex with their mate, and yet, her body went pliant in his arms.
“And?” He asked.
She blinked up at him, a drowsy, sated look that made him want to drag her into the elevator car he’d just vacated.
“I have a new car.”
He smiled and traced her cheekbone with a thumb. “And do you like it?”
“I don’t want you guys spoiling me, Derrick.”
He loved that she called him by his name and not his title. “Just a little spoiling, baby,” he murmured and nibbled on her bottom lip.
She gripped his forearms, but tiptoed, licking across his lips. He opened his mouth, and she plunged her tongue in. He sighed, reveling in the kiss. He lost track of time when she kissed him. She pulled back, the heat in her eyes pleasing him. He adjusted the jean jacket she wore, and twisted her skirt correctly to the front.
“You are our mate, it’s our pleasure.”
She looked him in the eye, the conflict between her independence and their need to care for her reflected on her face.
“I’m not your mate just yet.”
He swallowed the snarl rumbling his chest. “Where are you headed?” he asked, changing the subject to avoid the argument his cat wanted him to launch into.
She could deny all she liked, she was theirs, and despite telling her they would give her a choice, she didn’t really have one. Yeah, they hadn’t marked her yet, but she was as good as theirs. In just the three days she’d been sleeping with them, their scent was damn near intermingled, so any shifter within a mile of her knew she was taken.
She sighed. “To take another shower, then I need to call and reschedule my appointment at the showroom. I want to look at stuff for the penthouse.” She held up a hand. “Before you even say it, I don’t need security.”
He grunted and kissed her forehead. Yeah right they would let her drive around town without protection. “I want to go with you. Come get me when you’re ready?”
She nodded and stepped around him. He turned to watch her walk away, he had to. The way her ass moved when she walked was pure poetry. He waved as the elevator doors closed and turned back. Carlos’ assistant smirked at him, typing on her keyboard.
“Is he busy?”
She raised an eyebrow. Not anymore, her expression said. She’d been with Carlos for a few years, and nothing seemed to ruffle the woman. He gave her a little salute and walked into his co-mate’s office. Carlos was leaning back in his chair, looking out at the traffic flowing below.
Derrick groaned. “The scent of our mate is permeating this office, I don’t know how you plan on getting any more work done.”
Carlos wiped his face and smiled. “I didn’t think it was possible, Beta, the way I feel about that woman.”
Derrick grunted. He knew exactly what the Felix was talking about. She was under his skin, his every thought belonged to her.
“I take it she was upset about the car?”
Carlos laughed. “A little bit.”
“Well, we knew going in that our mate wouldn’t just sit back and allow us to care for her.” Derrick sat in the chair across from Carlos.
Carlos grunted. “Was there a reason you came to see me?”
“Nope. Just wanted to bask in Savannah’s scent.” Derrick licked his lips, tasting his mate’s scent in the air. “I’m sure you had such a hard time convincing her to take the new car.”
