“Sexy Savannah.” He murmured.

She rolled her eyes.

“Did you miss me while I was gone?” He held his arms out for a hug and she couldn’t resist.

She walked into his arms and burrowed her head into his chest. Was it bad that she’d only known him a week and actually did miss him while he was gone? He smelled so good. Cedar, musk and a tangy citrus smell that warmed her from the inside out. Her body was flush with his and damned if it didn’t take her a few minutes to remember her vow to avoid shifters and why it would be inappropriate to jump the man in her new friend’s living room. Power raised under her skin, the nerves tingling as though she’d touched a live wire and she stepped back. She’d thought she imagined that when he was in town last. It was not a fluke, it seemed.

“Come, I’m sure Laura brought you over to meet her brother.” He pulled back, anticipation darkening his eyes to onyx.

She nodded, walking in front of him. They rounded the corner into the kitchen and her breath stalled. A man she assumed was Laura’s brother, stood at the island counter. He was beautiful, and all she could see was his profile. His hair was short, but long enough to see the curls that would cover his head if he let them grow. His shoulders were wide, but the rest of him tapered into a lithe grace that screamed panther. The vee neck t-shirt he wore clung to the muscles of his arms and his faded jeans were fitted enough for her know his thighs would be equally muscular.

A jolt went through her body. A lightning strike of recognition pierced her soul. Shocked, she could only stare. The same recognition had overtaken her body when she’d first met with Derrick, and to now feel it from another man, to have them both under the same roof. She just stared, unable to do anything more. Alpha poured off the guy. His power reached to her and ignited the small amount that had been dormant within her for her whole life.

She frowned.

Her power had never been that strong before. This wasn’t a warm tide, like what happened in her grandfathers’ presence, or even the sparks Derrick pulled from her. This power roiled in the center of her body, bringing goosebumps along her arms. She stood still and took a deep breath, trying to calm her riotous body. Her skin tingled, and she squeezed her thighs together. She’d never had these feelings with her ex-husband and here she was, hot from just a glance at this man.

Derrick came up behind her and touched her shoulder and her knees nearly buckled. The air in the room thickened and she swallowed. Two men her body craved…she knew what it meant. She bit her lip, almost unable to move from the spot she was in. Laura’s brother finally turned and she held her breath.

His eyes were gold, and tilted at the corners, testament to the wild cat so close under his skin. His full lips moved up into a smile that kept him from being perfect. His canines were longer than normal humans, probably also due to his dual nature, and his bottom teeth slightly crooked. It did nothing to detract from his chiseled good looks. She sucked in a breath. Behind her, Derrick chuckled and she shook her head. She wasn’t ready for what the two of them could unleash within her body.

“Carlos, this is my friend, Savannah.” Laura grinned.

Savi forced her cheeks up into a semblance of a smile. Carlos walked closer and extended his hand. She stared at it. Derrick still had his hand on her shoulder, she knew if she touched them both…

Derrick moved closer, crowding her back and Carlos smiled at her. Her body shuddered, and behind her, Derrick released a growl that told her he knew what was happening as well. Carlos stepped closer, his hand still out. Did she have the courage? Laura’s face bunched in confusion and a forced cough, from somewhere in the kitchen, shook her from her stupor.

She extended a shaking hand and held her breath. Sure enough, the moment Carlos touched her it was as though a hurricane swept through her body. Wind whipped nerve endings into a frenzy and power washed through her, from Carlos to her, and up into Derrick’s hand on her shoulder. A whimper escaped her throat and Carlos’ eyes lit, his cat surfacing, his satisfied smile all tooth and predator. She should’ve been apprehensive, maybe even scared, but blood rushed to her hips, making her warm. She fought hard not to lift her chin and expose her neck to this man. She straightened her shoulders, breaking contact with first Derrick, then taking her hand out of Carlos’ larger one, leaving her body bereft from their power.

She cleared her throat. “Um, I have to go.”

She had to get home and make some phone calls. Carlos was an alpha, and his moving to town could only mean bad things for her family.
