Carlos rolled his eyes as Derrick shot him a smug look. “Don’t encourage him, please. He’s already hard to deal with.”

They all laughed. The seer waved at them to sit. She went to the kitchen and brought a tray with glasses and a pitcher of tea. She was clearly expecting them. She set the tray on the coffee table and served them.

“Your Beta got you to where fate wanted you to be.”

He took a sip of the cold tea and promptly choked.

Theo snickered next to him. “I probably should’ve warned you about sweet tea.”

He glared at his brother in law and put the glass down on a coaster, vowing to avoid the rest. Derrick sipped happily from his glass.

“This is heaven.” His Beta settled back on the sofa and crossed his ankle over his knee.

It was diabetes in a glass, but he would keep his opinions to himself. Carlos rolled his eyes and addressed the seer. “Tell me about the Miami prowl.”

Joelle looked to Felix Jeremiah for guidance.

He waved away her concern. “He needs to know before the changeover. It’s to be his prowl, he should know what he’s signing up for.”

She nodded. “The Felix has been giving us push back for a while, nothing outside of the norm. Every Alpha tries to expand their territory. Especially one with no mate or heirs to keep him content. With the way I see it, he could start escalating soon.”

Carlos sat forward on the edge of the sofa. “What has changed?”

“Something makes taking this territory personal for him.” She said, averting his eyes.

Carlos got a sinking feeling. “Are you sure it’s Miami?”

Her eyes filled with compassion and knowledge of why it mattered to him. “It’s definitely south of us. It’s a pretty specific motive.”

“When will he come?” He asked quietly.

“He seeks to take back what he feels is rightfully his.” She tucked her hair behind her ear, again looking away.

“This territory has never been his.” Harper growled.

The Seer looked at Carlos. “It’s not only land he wants.”

“He’s nothing to me. He has never been a part of my life.” It was as his mother feared. He’d hoped to avoid any involvement with his biological father, but it seemed there was no help for it.

“All the same.” She shrugged.

“How does it play?” Derrick asked.

She sighed. “I assume he’ll lose face trying to claim a son who wants nothing to do with him. Pride demands he take the next best thing.”

“Our land.” Jeremiah murmured.

“How do we stop him?” Derrick asked.

A growl rumbled his chest as his panther riled. “Like we’ve done every other obstacle in our life, Beta.”

Theo sighed. “We fight.”

Jeremiah’s hand formed a steeple. “We’re no strangers to fight, ourselves.”

Carlos turned to Felix Jeremiah. “I’m sorry your retirement won’t be as peaceful as you wanted.”

“He won’t fight fairly.” Joelle warned. “Gather your prowl, keep them tightly together until your Tribond is secure. Once that power is running throughout the prowl, there’s nothing he can do.”
