She came back a few moments later with an arm full of dolls. He winced at the amount. He and Derrick may have gone overboard when they’d taken her to the toy store when she arrived. He knew he’d get a lecture from his sister about spoiling her.
“Amelia hasn’t seen the new dolls you guys bought me.” She smiled.
He stood at the knock on the door and rushed to answer it. It was one of his enforcers. His third in command looked over his shoulder and greeted Ella.
“Hey, bunny, I’m your escort.”
“Simon! TiTi is just down the hall, I can walk by myself.” She insisted.
Simon gave her a mock pout. “Oh, so I’m not good enough to be your bodyguard?”
“Papa!” She growled, gave him a scowl and walked out the door.
He could only sigh as Simon smiled and shrugged. His daughter was a handful. But, he was happy for every second with her. He’d pulled a lot of strings and greased a lot of palms to take custody of Marcella after his unit had rescued her. Her entire family had been killed and there had been no way he was leaving the little girl to get lost in a system that barely handled the humans they had in their custody. He shook that from his mind and pulled out his phone.
“What’s going on?” Derrick answered on the first ring.
“Come over, we had a breach on prowl land.” He ordered.
“Did you call the Seer?”
He hummed. It hadn’t occurred to him. “Do you trust her?”
“I do. What do you always say?”
He groaned. “Everything that can be of use, use.” He sighed. “I’ll call the seer and find out what she knows.”
“Roger.” Derrick hung up.
The Seer was a foreign concept, and it felt strange to even talk about it. He had no experience with seers, and depending on one he barely met had him reticent. But he would use what he had at his disposal. She answered quickly.
“It’s begun.”
He cursed, no need pretending he didn’t know what she meant. “Any suggestions?”
She sighed in frustration. “Nothing new has come to me, but it’s starting and will escalate. Just keep your mate safe.”
He growled and hung up.
Derrick entered minutes later. “What do we know?”
“Shit. Just a breach for the moment, but the seer thinks it will escalate.”
“Not surprising, anyone would be curious enough to want to know the source of power. We raised a lot last night with our mate. They probably came to investigate.”
Derrick pulled out a chair to sit, when his phone rang again.
“Felix, a woman was attacked.” He recognized Brielle’s voice.
“On prowl land?” Shock had him standing.
“Near one of the safe houses,” came the answer.
He cursed. “Send me the address, we’re on our way.”
“Speaking of escalating.” Derrick murmured.
His phone beeped with the address and he and Derrick headed out.
