“No problem.”

She studied him. “You don’t have an issue with this?”

He waved his hands around. “We may have had a rocky start with the co-parenting, but I trust you and don’t judge me, but having a child full time is exhausting, as I’m sure you know. Being a weekend dad seems to work better for me. I’m okay with doing whatever it takes to make this work and keep Jamie safe.”

She didn’t say anything, couldn’t say anything because whatever she said would be rude. Instead, she decided to move on to the next item on the list. She grabbed her notebook next to her. She had everything she and Greg needed to discuss with regards to their son.

She scratched off ‘security talk’. “We need to talk about his panther.”

“So he’s definitely a shifter?”

“For sure.”

He rubbed a hand across his short cropped hair. “What does that mean exactly?”

“He’s strong, so he’ll probably go through puberty sooner than he should. Outbursts, temper issues, restlessness is what Carlos tells me to expect.”

“Carlos is the new Felix, your mate?”

She nodded.

“Well, I’ll concede to his expertise on it.”

She checked it off the list. “Christmas break is coming up. Do you want him for the whole week?”

He shook his head. “I can’t take that week off. I’ll take him an extra week in the summer and if your new mates don’t mind, I’ll do like I always do and show up Christmas morning.”

Another check and a note about the extra week. “That will work. He’ll need to go to camp this coming summer to prepare him for the shift.”

“That’s fine with me, email me the dates so I can plan our trip around it.”

“Where are you guys going this year? Jamie said he had a blast in Greece.”

“Portugal.”

“Nice.”

“Do you know, even on summer vacation, your son wakes up early?” He sighed. “Why does he wake up so early?”

She gave him a droll look. “What time did you wake up this morning?”

He chuckled. “Touché.”

Her phone rang, breaking into their conversation. It was the principal of Jamie’s school. She gripped the edge of the counter as the woman spoke, some of it not registering.

Greg came around the counter and put a hand on her shoulder. “What’s wrong?”

She looked up at him, dazed, her lips numb as she tried to push out the words.

“Someone took Jamie from the school.”

Carlos stood next to the truck and took a deep breath. His hands shook as he wiped over his face. He couldn’t enter the school in his current state. His mate and sister both needed him calm. Derrick came around the front of the truck and touched his forehead to Carlos’.

“Reign it in, Alpha. We’ll get them back.” Derrick whispered.

Carlos cleared his throat and wrestled back his panther. “Any luck finding the prowl?”
