Mac flashed her a smile. “Wait until you see it. It’s beautiful.”
“Well, maybe I can appreciate it while I get some fresh air on the balcony from time to time,” she said.
“Pack your bikini. I’m checked in as mister and missus. Perhaps the opportunity will present itself for you to join me at the pool to surveil or meet with Ruiz so you can get out of the room while Garcia is monitoring things,” Mac said.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to swim in the pool or walk on the beach, but having Facetime with the target isn’t my jam,” Yvette said.
Mac laughed. “Red, you’d be a natural, I’m sure.”
“That is one thing we will not be testing,” she said.
Garcia laughed. “I’ll pack a variety of tech, including long-distance microphones. We have a new laser microphone that is no bigger than a standard video recorder that will pick up conversations inside a room with the sliding glass door shut. All we need is a clear sightline.”
“What is the max distance?” Mac asked.
“A mile in calm conditions. Less with wind as is normally experienced at the beach. I think it will be sufficient.”
“My only hope of saving my contractor status with Interpol is to catch this guy red-handed with something damning.”
“And if he’s truly just on vacation?” Garcia asked.
“Unlikely, but if he is, I’m fucked.”
“We’ll still get him off the streets, though,” Yvette said. “And we’ll interrogate him and get intel that’s valuable to multiple agencies. It’ll be a win no matter what.”
“You both should come for dinner at my house tonight,” Garcia said.

Yvette and Mac stayed at HQ all morning planning the mission with Garcia and Cooper. They ate lunch with the team in the kitchen. Angel had ordered deli sandwiches and salads. It was comfortable, Mac being there. Yvette could get used to it. He knew many of the team members, and she introduced him to everyone he didn’t know.
“Either she’s young, or I’m old,” Mac whispered in Yvette’s ear after she’d introduced him to Briana Woods.
“Both,” she said with a grin. Their newest hire, attorney Becca Elliot, walked in. “And this is our new agency attorney.” She introduced them to each other by name as well.
“Shepherd hired an attorney?” Mac said after greeting her. “Does he have reason to worry about his legal standing?”
“Not for him or agency matters, specifically, though I’m sure she’ll make sure Shepherd’s ass, and our collective asses are covered in all we do,” Yvette said. “The agency has absorbed a domestic violence rescue program. Many of those women need legal representation and protection.”
“Most, not many,” Briana said. “And Becca is amazing when it comes to writing strong divorce petitions and requests for orders of protection to protect these women and their interests.”
“Shepherd’s quite diversified in the types of cases he’s handling these days,” Mac said.
Yvette remained silent. He didn’t know the half of what Shepherd Security was involved in and wasn’t cleared to know either.
“More than you’re authorized to know,” Cooper spoke up, as if he could read Yvette’s thoughts. He shot a warning look at both Woods and Becca Elliot.
“Right, sorry,” Briana apologized. Her gaze flickered to Madison, who was her supervisory and training officer.
“The domestic violence rescue cases as a category are okay to share,” Madison said. “And I know you won’t share any particulars like names or agency tactics. This agency’s partnership with Mac is limited in its scope and therefore sharing details regarding other agency cases must be limited as well.”
“Of course,” Briana said. She still couldn’t believe that she’d been notified by Cooper that she’d been staffed on a regular agency case with Sebastian and that they would be shipping out on a mission the next day. She still didn’t know the details beyond the four sentences Cooper had said, “We need to assign you to a priority mission deploying to Cancun tomorrow. Roth is driving back and will be staffed as well. The pre-mission briefing is in Shepherd’s office at thirteen hundred. Be there.” She was stepping away from an active domestic violence rescue case, leaving Bravo Team member Eddie ‘Needles’ Winston and Charlie Team member Rich ‘Handsome’ Burke to work on it with Becca. She still had to notify her client of the change.
“Briana has completed her Operator training. She and her boyfriend, Operator Sebastian Roth, are both staffed on this mission. Roth is one of our medics,” Yvette said to Mac.
“I recognized the names from our earlier meeting with Shepherd,” Mac said. “So, you are a legitimate couple. That will help on the mission.”
Briana gave him a small smile and then took a bite of her sandwich.
