Alessandro grunts. “I’ll rest when Conti’s dead.”
Panic sends my heart fluttering. Am I hearing him correctly? His men are hunting to kill? So cold. So cavalier.
So where does that leave me?
“As for the rest of you fucks…” he continues.
Orders are issued with rapid-fire precision. My eyes widen as men are grouped together by name and then sent across the globe in search of the one man. No man idle. No expense spared.
Having experienced a taste of Alessandro’s rage, I almost feel sorry for whoever Conti is.
Except if he’s the man who hurt Alessandro …
I force the thought into a corner of the cage where it belongs. Sympathy, concern, and a deep desire to hurt whoever attacked him aren’t feelings I should have for this monster.
“One final request before the hunt begins.” There’s a long pause, and I wish I could see him to understand why. “Anyone know how this happened?”
The men still, but no one replies.
“An extreme sparring session.”
“Understood, boss.”
“If anyone says otherwise or spreads unsubstantiated rumors, slice open his tongue. Make sure he understands gossiphurts.”
Oh. My. God. And I’m caged when he’s a violent, twisted animal?
“You have our word, Sandro.”
“We won’t disappoint you.”
“We’ll find that asshole Conti.”
Alessandro’s voice rises above their promises. “Leave.”
Within minutes, the office grows quiet.
I sit back on my haunches just as a man, without warning, drops to his knees in front of the desk.
“What the fuck are you doing?” Alessandro snaps.
“Looking for bugs…” Tommaso’s words falter as his gaze falls on me. With a cry, I cover myself.
Alessandro exhales a long breath, and the chair behind me creaks. “Find anything?”
“Fucking hell, Sandro.”
“A pretty nuisance, don’t you think?”
“This is where you put her?”
“By necessity, not choice.” Pause. “Bet she’s pink. She blushes so beautifully, doesn’t she?”
God, I want to die.
To Tommaso’s credit, he looks so perplexed, confusion could be his middle name. He pulls up off the floor and disappears from sight.
“This is your fault,” Alessandro accuses. “And now, I’ll have to kill her—she’s heard too much.”
