“You sure?”

I nodded, purposefully avoiding looking at Tripp. “Yeah. See you out there tomorrow.”

“Um… ok.”

I paid my tab, then left the bar.

Part of me had wanted to spend more time with Tripp, which was confusing. And I didn’t have the desire to delve into that.

Chapter 5 - Tripp

~October~

My mind wandered as I loaded packages into my truck.

Axel and I had settled into a strange new routine. I didn’t mind, but it was unexpected.

We’d both arrive at the bar, sit together for a bit, then leave. Sometimes we’d talk, and other times we’d sit in our silent bubble. We’d shit-talk each other, but even that seemed to have slowed. The companionship was more important than the silly fun rivalry we’d built over the years.

It was… comfortable. Axel seemed to be suffering the same problem that I had. He knew that sense of displacement when home no longer felt right. I didn’t have to try to explain it.

It didn’t hurt that I found his scent soothing. I’d always liked it, but it had taken on new importance. Being near him settled the strange jitters and calmed me for a few hours. When everything else in the world felt skewed, he grounded me.

The one downside was that his scent also left me incredibly horny. I couldn’t remember it having that effect before, but I also hadn’t spent as much time with him.

My cock was happy with the extra attention of a good jerk before bed, but I would much rather be with a man.

A cute omega would be nice… then again, so would Axel. I wouldn’t mind finding out what he was packing. It had been a while since I’d been with another alpha, but that didn’t matter. I could take or I could give.

I grunted as I lifted a box that was heavier than expected. I glanced at the address so that I’d anticipate it for delivery, and grinned. It was for the house with the moving truck… and the cute omega.

Ollie…

Even the name was cute.

My day got better only a few minutes later when I saw he also had a pickup scheduled. While there was always a chance he left items out, I hoped he wouldn’t.

Everything seemed brighter as the morning went on. The fall weather was perfect, and the changing leaves made it look like each tree was covered with golden sparkles. I was even able to get a smile out of Axel when we ran into each other at one of the many strip malls on our route, though the circles under his eyes showed just how much whatever was going on was affecting him.

Anticipation built as morning turned to afternoon. I was excited, but… why?

It wasn’t as if this was the first new person on my route, or even the first new cute omega. Hell, Bryce and I flirted every morning.

But this one felt different.

I hoped Axel had a delivery with him soon, so that we could compare notes during one of our bar nights.

Somehow, that felt just as important.

Axel and I leapfrogged each other several times as we started on the residential portion of our routes. Then I was there, on the cute cul-de-sac. I parked in front of the house, grabbed the heavy box, and climbed out of my truck.

There was a small sign on the door asking me to ring the bell for the delivery, and I waited as I heard the chime from inside.

The door opened, and my heart stopped for a second. The man standing there was even cuter than he’d appeared when I’d seen him from the road. His glasses were slightly skewed and magnified his brown eyes. Locks of soft brown hair went every which way, as if he ran his hand through it a lot. The scent wafting from inside was delectable, and there wasn’t a hint of alpha.

“Ollie Planche?” I asked.

He pushed up his glasses and nodded, “That’s me.”
