“Hmm?”

“Do you want or need anything not already in the bags?”

I shook my head.

“Ok.” He paused. “One more thing.”

“Hmm?”

I opened my eyes to see Beck holding out his phone to Ian, who pressed the speakerphone icon.

“How’re you doing, Baby Boy?” Papa asked through the tinny speaker.

I sniffled. My mates thought of everything. “They just started, but contractions suck.”

“They’ll get worse. You can get an epidural once you get to the hospital though. It hurts, but once it’s all done you’ll get to meet your babies.”

I licked my lips. “I’m scared, Papa.”

“That’s normal. You’re about to be responsible for two brand new lives. But you’re not alone. You’ve got your mates, and I’m a phone call away until I get there. We all believe in you too.”

“Thank you.”

Papa started humming, and I couldn’t help but smile. It was a song he’d always sung when I got hurt as a kid.

“Pain, pain, go away,” I sang softly. “Let my baby play again.”

“That’s right. And soon you’ll be singing that to your babies when they scrape their knees.”

“Thanks, Papa,” I sniffled.

“Your Beck said you’ll be headed to the hospital soon. Do you want me to stay on the phone until you leave?”

I ran my hand through the water. “I need to get out of the bath and dressed. I don’t think I’ll be good company.”

“So that’s a yes?” he teased.

I smiled. “I’ll let you go. We’ll let you know as soon as the babies are born though.”

“Ok.” There was a pause. “You’ve got this, Baby Boy.”

“Thanks, Papa.”

“I’ll see you in a couple of weeks.”

“I can’t wait.”

“Me neither.”

“Bye.”

“Bye.”

The call disconnected and Ian set the phone aside.

“You look calmer,” he murmured.

“It was good to talk to Papa.”
