Jamie was dancing between us, arms looped around one neck while grinding his ass against the other and switching regularly.
It was nice, and I could almost pretend that we were actually there as a throuple.
Several songs passed before Jamie tired himself out enough to want to return to the table. He was all smiles as we ordered another round of drinks—apparently over whatever had annoyed him earlier.
Declan was telling us about some of the most outlandish inquiries at his work from the past few days when somebody approached our table. We all looked up to see a strange alpha standing there.
The man smirked at Jamie. “Care to dance?”
Jamie scowled. “I’m here with my alphas.”
The alpha looked over at Declan and me with a sneer. “They’re not dancing.”
I exchanged a glance with Declan. His expression had hardened to one I recognized as resignation. He hated the thought of seeing Jamie with another alpha, but it wasn’t up to us.
Jamie wanted to dance. That was why we were there. So it wasn’t right for us to protest.
“We’ll be ok,” Declan said to Jamie. “Dance if you want. That’s why we’re here, right?”
“Come on, cutie,” the other alpha said, the smirk once again on his face.
Jamie scowled at us as he slid from the bench.
I wanted to pummel the other alpha when he placed a hand on the small of Jamie’s back, and Declan’s stormy expression told me he felt much the same. But Jamie hadn’t said no.
Still, almost all of Jamie’s smiles were fake after he returned to the table.
Chapter 10 - Jamie
~December 23~
“You ok?” Camden asked as he passed over a steaming mug of hot chocolate.
I sighed and cradled the mug. “I give up.”
“Huh?”
“Operation Christmas Cock. I’m done.”
“But it’s not Christmas yet.”
“And I don’t see anything changing in the next two days. Tomorrow evening we’ve all got the big multi-family thing to go to, then time with our individual families on Christmas morning. Plus…”
I sighed and ran my hand through my hair. “I pushed too far, and I don’t think any of us can take it anymore. Declan questions all my suggestions now. He’s never been like that. Austin has circles under his eyes and I don’t think he’s sleeping well. And I…”
I put the hot chocolate aside and pulled my knees to my chest. “There’s only so much I can try before it starts feeling like rejection. My rational side knows they’re just that oblivious, butmy omega side feels like my alphas don’t want me.” I rested my forehead on my knees. “Maybe it’s because my heat is in a few days. But… it hurts. I can’t do it anymore. So I’m going to enjoy time with them over the next couple of days, then sob between bouts with my favorite dildo.”
“And after your heat?”
I squeezed my eyes shut. “I don’t know…”

~Christmas Evening~
The tree twinkled in the corner—vibrant lights mocking me. They represented a joy I didn’t feel.
The boxes were gone, the gifts put away and the wrapping paper in the trash. But I didn’t have what I wanted most.
