I was pretty sure he felt the same, but I’d have to talk to him about it.
First things first though—we needed to deal with whatever game Jamie was playing. I wasn’t going to stress Austin any more than he already was.
Chapter 9 - Austin
~1 Week Before Christmas~
The front door opened and Jamie strode in. He stopped in front of the couch and stared at Declan and I.
“Get up,” Jamie ordered, hands on his hips. “We’re going out.”
I shared a glance with Declan. He sighed, then turned to Jamie. “Where do you want to go?”
“You’re taking me dancing,” Jamie declared. “Actually… I’m taking you since I invited and I’m not a dick. But I expect you both to dance with me.”
“We can’t stay out too late,” was Declan’s only protest. “I’ve got a team meeting at work in the morning.”
“They’re holding a team meeting this close to Christmas?” Jamie asked.
Declan shrugged. “I think they want to review sales from this quarter and give us an idea of goals going into the new year.”
“Assholes,” Jamie chuckled. “They’re going to stress everybody out right before the holiday.” He paused, thengrinned. “Even more reason to go dancing tonight. Come on, let’s blow off some steam.”
Neither Declan nor I moved until Jamie stomped over and grabbed my hands. He pulled me to my feet.
“Come on…” he whined. “I want to dance with you two.”
Declan stood and let out a long breath. “You’re paying for the ride,” he stated. “If we’re going, we’re drinking. I’ll be damned if I’m going to put myself at risk of a DUI.”
“Deal!” Jamie chirped. “I’ve already scheduled a ride anyway. They should be here in a few minutes.”
“We’re not staying out late,” Declan repeated.
Jamie grinned. “Thank you!” He skipped over to the arch that separated the living room from the entry.
Declan gave Jamie a strange look as he walked past, and I could have sworn I heard our omega make a disappointed sound. But I continued to the coat rack and grabbed my jacket.
“You coming?” Declan asked, turning to where Jamie still waited in the arch.
Jamie sighed. “Yeah…”
We piled into a waiting car and a few minutes later found ourselves at Jamie’s favorite club.
Jamie immediately made his way to a circular booth and slid back, taking the middle of the bench.
Declan and I shared a glance, then both squeezed onto one side.
“What’s wrong?” I asked Jamie once Declan and I were settled and I saw our omega scowling.
He shook his head and grinned at me. “Let’s get our drinks then dance. All of us at once. Sandwich me between you.”
I frowned but nodded. It felt like Jamie was avoiding the question.
Jamie chattered for several minutes—talking about the birthday and holiday parties he’d performed at. He was halfway through some sort of fruity cocktail when he announced that it was time to dance. He slid from the booth and waited for Declan and me to follow.
Jamie got between us, twining our arms with his as we walked to the dance floor.
It took a minute, but soon the music and movement combined and I started to enjoy myself. Declan also appeared to loosen up.
