I swallowed. “I… I can do that.”

“Great! I’ll keep an eye out for that.”

 “Ok.”

 “Once again, congratulations.”

 “Thank you.”

The line disconnected, and my hand fell to the floor, my phone slipping from my fingers and thudding as it landed on the rug.

Owen’s scent washed over me as he leaned in and wrapped his arms around my shoulders. “Congrats, Bug.”

 Chapter 3

 ~March~

Ifidgeted with my jacket sleeves as I walked into the lobby. Darlene had informed me that the culture was business casual—unless a client meeting was scheduled—but I wanted to make a good impression on my first day. Especially since I was going to meet the other two members of the executive team for the first time.

Where the lobby had been fairly empty the day I’d interviewed, this time it was bustling with people arriving for work. I moved to one side and looked around, trying to find my bearings.

 “Ryan!”

I scanned for the voice and saw Darlene walking over. I met her in the middle, then followed her to the elevators.

“I’m taking you to human resources first,” she stated as she pressed a button. “Once all your onboarding paperwork is done, come on up and I’ll give you the tour.”

“Ok,” I replied, noting the gazes of the others around us.

She glanced at me and chuckled. “You’ll meet everybody soon enough.”

“Everybody?” I squeaked, remembering how full the lobby had been.

She laughed. “The department heads anyway. There are about four hundred employees, and nobody expects you to know everyone.”

I nodded, forcing my stomach to settle.

We stepped out on the fourth floor, and she led me down a wide hallway until we reached a set of glass double doors labeled ‘Human Resources’.

We walked past a small reception area and several cubicles, then stopped at an office. She knocked twice.

“Hey Jeremy,” she said, opening the door. “I brought the new hire.”

“Come on in,” a voice inside responded.

We walked in to see a middle-aged omega behind a desk, family portraits on the cabinets behind him.

He stood and extended a hand. “Jeremy Adams.”

“Ryan Lewis,” I replied as I returned the handshake.

He motioned to a chair. “Have a seat.” Then he glanced at where Darlene still stood.

“You have all the info?” she asked.

He nodded. “Yep. I’ll let you know if I’m missing anything.”

“Great.” She turned to me. “You’re in good hands. Jeremy will get you all settled with the paperwork. No rush. It usually takes a couple of hours.”
