I shrugged. “We’re going to need a bigger place, there’s no way to get around that. I loved this house as soon as I saw it, but I don’t want the headache that comes from being a landlord.”

“I get it.”

“Enough about me,” I stated. “What’s new with you?”

“Not much,” he hummed. “Though I have officially started the job hunt again.”

“Are you serious?”

He sighed, then started pulling ingredients from his bags. “I just feel like there are better people for the job than me. I’d rather leave on my own terms, than be in the lurch when they get sick of me.”

I frowned. “Have you ever considered that your work is fine, and it’s just a bad case of imposter syndrome?”

He turned and glared at me. “Really? Don’t you remember how much I screwed up as a kid?”

“But that was when you were a kid,” I answered. “You’re an adult now, one with a good track-record. You’ve never been so much as disciplined at a job as far as I’m aware.”

“Just cause I left before I could fuck something up.”

“Or maybe because you’re really actually a good employee.”

“More like they don’t want to deal with the paperwork.”

I sighed. “So what are you looking for?”

He shrugged. “Probably more office work. I’ve got my resumé updated and am keeping my eye out for positions that fit.”

“Well… good luck then.” I paused as he reached for a measuring cup. “Three-fifty on the oven?”

“Yes, please.”

Ash leaned against the edge of my desk about ten minutes before his shift was supposed to start, then handed me a small bag.

“What’s this?” I asked.

He grinned. “It’s been two weeks since your heat. I know you’ve been waiting to test so that the results would be accurate.”

“It’s…” I trailed off, knowing he would understand the question I’d intended to ask.

He grinned. “Yep. No need to stop at a drugstore on the way home. That’s the test I liked best. Fast response, clear answer, easy to use.”

I sniffled. “Thank you.”

He laughed. “Though I think it’s safe to say you’re pregnant.”

“Why do you say that?”

“Cause you teared up at being given a pregnancy test.”

I let out a laugh. “You’re probably right.”

“Plus you were in full heat, with four alphas breeding you. It’s safer to assume you’re pregnant, than not.”

“That’s true too.”

I opened the bag and spied a small box at the bottom. Something in me demanded I rush home to find out.
