It had plenty of cabinet and counter space, but those were the only things going for it. I could already imagine myself getting dizzy from constantly turning around to get from the stove, to the sink, to the fridge, and back.

I shook my head. “I don’t even need to see the bedrooms.”

“It was worth a try.”

I nodded. “It was. Thank you.” I blew out a long breath. “Next?”

Derrick shook his head. “This was the last one for today.”

I groaned. “You’re kidding, right?”

He shook his head. “I think you’ve already gone through all the houses meeting your location and specs that are within your pre-approved limit.”

I scrubbed a hand down my face. “So meet again in a few days?”

Derrick rubbed the back of his neck. “About that…”

“Uh-oh.”

He nodded. “I talked to a mortgage broker friend, and he said that you’d need to get on the calendar for closing within the next few days if you’re going to meet your deadline. It was already going to be rushed, and he said everybody’s schedules are filling up fast. Even if you put in an offer today, it could all be held up by something as simple as an inspection or a title search taking too long.”

I slumped against the counter. “So I’m out of time…”

“We can still keep looking, but I don’t think we’ll get you out before your rent increases.”

“Guess I’ll have to take Ash up on his offer.”

“Hmm?”

I shook my head. “Just thinking aloud. You’ll give me a call when there’s something else to see?”

“Of course.”

“Thanks.”

Chapter 3

~August~

Ash pulled a chair around and winced as he sat.

“Again?” I teased with a chuckle.

He gave me a slightly pained smile. “It’s the new version of a hangover. Love it in the moment, but body protests the next day.”

“Gonna make them stop double knotting you?”

He burst into laughter. “Hell no. The orgasms are mind-blowing, and my body will get used to it eventually.”

“At least until you’re too big for them to do that.”

His smile softened as he looked down and rubbed his stomach. “I still can’t believe it sometimes.”

“You’re already glowing though.”

He nodded. “I want this.”

I walked over and squeezed his shoulder. “You’re going to be a great papa.”
