“See you.”

My mind raced as I walked out to my car. While the outcome wasn’t what I wanted, I at least knew where things stood.

I blinked as a plate of potato chips and what appeared to be a trio of dip options appeared in front of me. When I looked up I saw Shane—one of the players from the lacrosse team—holding the plate.

 “What’s this?” I asked.

He smiled, sunlight glinting off his dark blond hair and highlighting his muscular physique. “You didn’t have food, figured I’d fix that.”

“Thank you,” I replied, accepting the plate.

Shane frowned and took a seat next to me. “You feeling ok? You’re normally more talkative… when you’re not eating that is.”

I blew out a long breath. “Just dealing with some bullshit.”

He bumped my shoulder with his, making a spark of desire shoot through me. “Tell me about it?”

I shook my head. I didn’t want to burden the handsome alpha with my problems, especially during their season-end party. “I don’t want to bring you down with my drama. It’s supposed to be a celebration.”

“It would be more of a celebration if I could get you to smile,” he replied. “Come on. Maybe it’s something I can help with.”

I leaned back and stared at the sky—blue and endless. “I don’t think there’s really anything you can do, unless you know of a way for me to buy a house in fewer than forty-five days.”

There was a beat of silence, and I was about to apologize when he spoke. “I don’t, but maybe one of my roommates does.”

I jerked to look at him so quickly that I was shocked I didn’t strain my neck. “What?”

He smiled. “Sec,” then he turned and motioned across the yard. “Derrick!”

Another gorgeous alpha—with an average build and dark blond hair—turned, then strode over. “‘Sup?”

“Derrick,” Shane started. “This is Jace. Jace, Derrick.”

I stood, carefully balancing the plate that Shane had brought, and shook Derrick’s hand, noticing his stunning blue eyes. “Nice to meet you.”

He smiled, the expression making his eyes seem even brighter. “So you’re Jace. Shane’s been talking about the librarians who were so helpful to the team.”

I shook my head. “That was mostly my coworker, Ash. I’m just along for the ride.”

He laughed, a rich sound that warmed something inside me. “Shane always talked about the cute librarians who’d show up to the games, even if they didn’t know the sport. It made me feel better since I could never attend.”

 “Never?”

He nodded. “Kinda conflicts with work hours.”

 “Oh? What do you do?”

 “I’m a realtor.”

 I blinked. “What?”

Shane laughed. “Like I said, he might be able to help.”

“Help with what?” Derrick asked, raising one eyebrow.

I took a deep breath. “So the short version is that I have a new landlord who’s an asshole, and my rent is going up fifty percent. I’ve got to be out within forty-five days if I want to avoid the increase. I’m thinking about buying, and I even got pre-qualified for a loan. But finding a place and closing in such a short timeline…” I ran a hand through my hair. “That seems to be the problem.”
