“No, why?”

“Come see. There’s a whole group of alphas at the door.”

I blinked and walked out of the bedroom. I was expecting Ash and his new mates, but that hardly made a group.

I froze when I saw Ash and his alphas, but also Shane, Roland and Vince standing at the door.

“D says he’ll try to be here later,” Shane declared as I mutely allowed them inside. “Weekends are his busy days.”

“Wha- what are you doing here?” I finally asked. “I mean I know Ash was bringing the others…”

Shane laughed. “We’re here to help our new neighbor.”

 I smiled. “Thank you.”

He turned, and smiled. “Of course. Now… where shall we start?”

 Chapter 4

“Hot dogs are ready,” Vince declared from where he’d stationed himself at my grill. “Burgers will be another few minutes.”

“Perfect timing,” one of Ash’s mates, Nate, said. “Baked beans just finished.”

“Let me at that food!” Ash called, running his hands over his already-developing baby-bump. “I’m starving!”

“Isn’t that my line?” I laughed.

“Not for now,” Ash retorted. “I’m eating for four.”

Everybody else burst into laughter as another of his mates, Miguel, indicated that Ash should sit.

I looked around my new yard, marveling at the people who’d shown up for my housewarming party. Ash and his mates: Tyler, Garret, Miguel, and Nate. My new neighbors: Derrick, Shane, Vince, and Roland. Ryan and Owen, plus a few more friends and family.

So many new people, but they had all become important fixtures in my life.

“You all unpacked?” Roland asked as he took a seat beside me.

I chuckled. “The important stuff maybe, but I shoved a lot of the boxes in that third bedroom so they’d be out of the way for the party.”

He laughed. “I hear ya there. Unpacking is almost worse than packing.”

I nodded. “At least I won’t have to worry about it all again for a long time.”

He grinned. “One of the advantages of owning.”

 “You can say that again.”

He leaned close and bumped my shoulder with his. “I’m making a new cake tomorrow. Stop by in the evening?”

 I smiled. “I’ll be there.”

The buzz of a lawnmower came from outside, far closer than it should have been.

I stepped around the kitchen island and strode to the front window, then I started laughing.
