I jumped, turning with a shout of surprise to see Aunt Sharon standing behind me. “It’s not a date. That was my realtor.”

She huffed. “And what are you going to do with a house once you get mated?”

I fought the urge to roll my eyes. “I’m sure we’ll figure something out when that happens.”

“Come back in,” she demanded. “We’re about to do the baby-food tasting game.”

“How fun…” I deadpanned as I followed her back into the living room.

I parked on the curb in front of Derrick’s house, and felt a slight tinge of jealousy. The neighborhood was full of cute ranch-style homes. Porches were decorated with swings and planters, while the yards were mostly xeriscaped with native plants.

It was just the type of neighborhood I loved, and was close to the university too.

I took a deep breath and got out of the car.

“Hey!” Shane said, stepping onto his porch. “D just called and will be here in a few minutes.”

 “Ok,” I replied.

“How about you come in and meet the others.”

 “I don’t want to impose…”

He laughed. “It’s no imposition. Besides…” he paused as a grin spread across his face. “Roland is a baker, and his newest test creation is almost cool enough to taste.”

I groaned. There had been plenty of food at the party, but just the mention of freshly baked goods had my stomach rumbling.

“I know that look,” he teased. “Come on, it was a chocolate something…”

“Chocolate raspberry chipotle,” a new man announced from the door. He turned to face me, and I got a good look at his full dark beard and warm brown eyes. “Cookies, to be precise. I’m Roland,” he stated, extending a hand.

I shook his hand, noting his strong grip and how warm his skin was against mine. “Jace.”

He grinned. “So you’re Jace! Shane and Derrick talk about you all the time.”

 “Uh-oh…”

He burst into laughter. “All good, I promise.”

“Can we eat these yet?” another person shouted from inside.

“Come on,” Roland urged. “I don’t know how much longer Vince will wait.”

“Not long!” the voice inside shouted. “Get in here you assholes! These smell too damn good!”

Shane grinned and motioned toward the door.

“Thanks for having me,” I mumbled as I followed Roland inside, noting how muscular he was underneath his t-shirt.

Their home was spacious, with the entry leading directly into a living room. An arch on one side opened to a dining room and I could see a large kitchen past that.

Another alpha stood next to the table, eyeing cooling racks filled with cookies. He turned as we walked over, and a tinge of desire flooded my middle. He had a smiling round face with green eyes and soft-looking brown hair. He wasn’t as fit as the others, more on the chubby end, but my omega side wanted to curl up next to him for what I expected would be epic cuddles.

“Ok Vince,” Roland laughed as the other alpha paced next to the table. “You can have one now.”

Vince turned to the cookies, grabbed two, then strode over. He held one out to me and grinned. “Here! You have to try one.”
