“Of course!” I turned, grabbed a form, then passed it over to him. “Just fill this out.”
He grabbed a pen from a cup and started writing. “I would’ve got a card earlier if I’d known how many ornithology books y’all have.”
“Do you like birds?”
He glanced up and chuckled as our eyes met. “I love ‘em. I lead weekend birdin’ tours during the summer—after the lacrosse season is over. I know a lot, but there’s always more to learn. Plus the kids always have more questions than I can answer, so I need to step up my game.”
“Oh…” The answer was so unexpected that I didn’t know how to respond.
“And what do ya do for fun?” he asked as he filled out the form. “Do ya go home and read?”
“Actually…” I started, rubbing the back of my neck. “I like video games—first person shooters in particular. So I usually unwind by gaming for a bit after work.”
“Oh? Have a favorite?”
I gave him a shy smile. “I’ve been playing a lot of Battlecall Three lately.”
“Is that one good? I still haven’t gotten it.”
I shrugged. “The new mechanics are nice, but the missions feel repetitive.”
“Aren’t they always?”
“To some extent, but…” I made a disgruntled noise. “It’s better when I can play with others. Unfortunately, I tend to get home at an odd time. Too late for a lot of the US, but kinda early for the Australians. Means it’s hard to play with a consistent team.”
“Sounds like ya need a local crowd.”
I sighed. “Weird hours. I get off earlier than the swing shift people, but when the day crowd tends to go to bed, and when night shifters are getting ready for work.”
“I’ll let ya know when I get Battlecall Three. I won’t be able to play every night, but maybe I can be somebody ya can rely on.”
“You don’t have to!”
He laughed. “I was gonna buy the game anyway. Now I have a reason to buy it sooner.”
I gaped. Did this gorgeous man really want to play with me?
He passed over the request form and I accepted it.
My thoughts swirled as I entered his details—his name was Garrett Moss—then grabbed and scanned a card. I set it on the counter with a customer-service smile, but noticed an unsure expression on his face.
“I-if ya want to play with me,” he added in a much more subdued tone. “Don’t feel pressured.”
I held my hands up. “No, I do…” I licked my lips. “I just wasn’t expecting it. There’s still sometimes a stigma about omegas gaming, so…”
He smiled. “The offer is real, as soon as I get the game. I think it’s fun to play with people from around the world, but there’s somethin’ special about knowin’ teammates too.”
“Yeah.”
Garrett picked up the library card and slid it into his wallet. “I’ll get the game in a couple weeks, then we can set up a time to play.”
“Ok.”
He took a step back from the counter and grinned. “I can’t wait to see your skills. But for now, I think I’m gonna get some readin’ material with my new card.”
I nodded mutely as he chuckled and walked away.
Fuck… would I be able to focus if he flirted like that while gaming?
