I sighed and nodded. “Been getting them a lot.”
“At least the morning sickness tapered off, right?”
I flipped him off. “How the hell was I so sick for so long?
Kaleb shrugged. “Don’t ask me.”
I sighed. “Only a few more days until my due date though. Then I can scold Miles for making his papa so sick.”
Kaleb laughed. “Good luck with that. You might scold him for making you sick, to have him spit up on you in retaliation.”
I mock-gasped. “Don’t you start.”
His laughter increased, and I glanced over at Charlie to see him still fast asleep.
Kaleb grinned as I returned my attention to him. “Charlie can sleep through anything.”
“He’d have to, as boisterous Frankie is.”
Kaleb shrugged. “The other papas from Frankie’s friend group say it’s normal. Babies only need silence if you raise them to need silence. Otherwise they’ll sleep through normal life noises just fine.”
“How’s it going with all of them? You said it was strange—at first—meeting so many new people at once.”
He smiled. “Now that we’ve been through plenty of poker nights, I get it. The alphas do their thing, and we all trade off babysitting or doing things as a group so that we have social time too. You should join us, and I’m sure Max would be welcome with the other alphas.”
“I’ll mention it to him.”
“Ok.”
I sighed as my baby stomped on my bladder. “Excuse me. Miles thinks I have to piss.”
Kaleb laughed. “I don’t miss that. You know where the bathroom is.”
I stood, and winced as I felt wetness between my legs. “Damn kid, how hard did you kick?”
“Ummm… you might wanna call Max.”
“To bring me a change of pants?”
“To take you to the hospital,” Kaleb laughed. “I think your water broke.”
“Wait… What?”
“Look down.”
I glanced at the floor, and, sure enough, I was standing in a puddle.
Kaleb shook his head and grabbed his phone.
“Hey Kay,” Max answered on speakerphone. “What’s up?”
“Better come get your man,” Kaleb laughed. “His water broke and I think his brain short-circuited. He’s just staring down.”
Max echoed the laugh. “That tracks. I’ll let the boss know, and I’ll be there in about fifteen.”
“Is your go bag already in the car?”
“Yep.”
