Annie grumbled. “He has, you just don’t have the proof.”
“Hmm?”
“He broke in. That’s enough for jail time, and most likely a restraining order while you await trial.”
I sighed. “If only I’d had cameras. I just thought I’d never need them. But even if I went to a hotel… it’s a public place.”
Annie blew out a long breath. “And even if you added cameras to your apartment now, if he hid some of his own… It’s a tricky situation. He might back off if he thinks he can watch you, but you can’t add cameras without taking any of his out, or he’ll know they’re there.”
Something about her frustration hit me. “My apartment… what…” I licked my lips as an idea began to form. “What if we didn’t put them in my apartment?”
She blinked. “I don’t follow. You’re not planning to move already, are you?”
I shook my head. “My friend, Kaleb… he just got mated. It’s not even been a month, and he’s in a fated pair. He hasn’t moved much from his apartment except for the essentials.”
“You said he’s out of town though.”
I nodded. “I know…” I plunged my fingers into my hair and pulled at the strands.
“Hey…” she tried soothing me. “We’ll figure it out.”
Deep breath in, hold, release.
“We’re checking for cameras or bugs in my apartment, right?”
“Yeah?”
“Then let’s discuss the plan while you scan for them.”
“What do you mean?”
I lifted my head and met her eye. “I’m sick of him, and I don’t want another omega to go through this. I want to trap this bastard.”
“I don’t know…”
I huffed. “Well I do.”
“Tell me what you’re thinking.”
I took a few seconds to compose my thoughts, then nodded. “He’s shown that he’s willing to break in, right, but a hotel wouldn’t be a good place for that.”
“Ok…”
“So, when we’re in my place, give me some sort of signal if you detect bugs or cameras. We can talk about me getting a hotel for a few nights, but move onto the topic of cost, and I can mention going to his place since he now lives with his alpha and since it’s not under my name it should be quote-unquote safe.”
“Then what?”
I forced a smile. “Kaleb might be out of town, but I still have keys to his place. Frederick doesn’t need to know that though. We can discuss waiting for Kaleb to get back, but I’m positive that if I text him he’ll call and I can get the ok to put some cameras up in his apartment. Then we wait until the asshole strikes.”
I blew out a long breath. “Hell, if there are bugs in my apartment I’d be willing to bet money that Kaleb would go in with me when he’s back to make it look more realistic. Help me pack my things for a longer stay than a few nights in a hotel.”
Annie considered it. “I don’t like it. Nobody in their right mind at any crisis center would recommend such a risky plan. It’s better to remove you from the situation until he moves on. And what about your car? He might take to watching it to see when you go back and forth for work. He’ll see you’re not staying there.”
I started to deflate, then I remembered the layout of Kaleb’s apartment complex. “Actually… it’s nearly impossible to watch both the parking lot and the front door.”
“What do you mean?”
“The place has this old design, that’s kind of a pain in the ass. The doors all face an inner courtyard, and his apartment is towards the middle of a row. There is parking all around, but no spaces have a direct line of sight.”
