I frowned. “I don’t like that either. It means that he was never as serious as he claimed.”
Morgan blew out a long breath. “Some people are just that way. Male, female, alpha, omega—being a shitty person isn’t exclusive to one group.”
“I guess that’s true.”
“Don’t get too in your head because of him.”
“It was three years.”
“And you’ve got the rest of your life to be with somebody better.”
I smiled. “You have a point.”
He chuckled. “You better get out of here before I decide you’re ready for some private sessions.”
I laughed. “See you tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow,” he echoed before turning to head back to the office.
I headed out to my car, and decided that I wanted a nice bike ride before the weather turned cold.
Well… colder.
I drove home and grabbed my bike from inside the door, then I set off.
Chapter 5 - Justin
My phone buzzed with a text and I cringed. I didn’t need to look to know that it was Frederick. Again.
Frederick the dick, as I’d come to think of him.
I’d met with Kaleb for coffee, and he’d asked about whether I’d left the party with a man, but I didn’t want to spoil his happy glow with my problems. He’d been all smiles, despite his obvious discomfort when sitting.
He’d found his mate, and was very likely pregnant. I’d be a real asshole of a friend if I spoiled his mood by describing just how sideways the night had gone. So I’d given Kaleb the quick version when he asked, and quickly shifted the topic back to him and his eventual kids and moving in with his alpha.
The last thing I wanted was for him to worry about me. I’d gone home with Frederick, and I could handle him on my own.
Still, I’d thought several days of ignoring the alpha’s texts would have sent enough of a message. It was like the guy had never been ghosted before.
I groaned, verified that it really was Frederick, then dropped my phone back onto the coffee table.
Everything had seemed so good too. Sure he’d approached Kaleb first, but I’d quickly let that little tidbit go as soon as we’d gotten to talking.
Frederick owned his own business: a property management company specializing in high-end properties. He had a masters of business from a good school, and was well-spoken. We discussed the exhibit, and how he was proud as a museum patron to help bring in new exhibits. He’d shown interest in me, asking about my work and likes.
I’d thought my run of bad luck when it came to alphas had finally ended. Sure the name thing felt a bit pompous, but I could deal with using his full name.
Unfortunately the illusion was shattered as soon as we reached his place. It was like he was a completely different person once in private. The warm flirty tone to his voice turned cold. His mouth was demanding against mine when he pinned me to the wall for a kiss.
And me? Well I’d been a fucking idiot. I’d been too long without being touched, and when he ground an erection against me I’d given in.
That was when the second red flag came out: he’d argued against a condom. I’d had to threaten to walk out before he finally relented.
To top it off, the sex had been mediocre at best. He was far more interested in getting his knot popped than ensuring that I actually enjoyed having him inside me.
He was still knotted inside me when he started talking about how we’d have to go without a rubber for my next heat, because it felt better for him. Then, rather than cuddle or chat, he’d made me squirm as he reached for his phone and ignored me until he passed out.
I’d never been happier that I’d decided to follow in my own car than allow him to drive. As soon as his knot went down and I was sure that he was asleep, I bolted.
