“You should be. I mean think about it. What would a modern alpha prefer, an omega who spent years locked away wishing for that one perfect knot, or a man who had dreams and worked to make them reality?”

“Do I really need to answer that? You do remember that I’m bitching about a man who thought coffee was enough to get into my pants.”

“That’s not the kind of man you’re after, nor the kind you deserve.”

“But it’s the only kind I seem to find.”

 “Lemme see your phone.”

Justin handed it over, already unlocked.

I scrolled until I found his dating app and opened it. I swiped left on several photos, but paused at an absolutely delicious-looking alpha.

“What about him?” I asked, showing Justin the photo. “He’s hot.”

 Justin made a face. “Really?”

I looked at the photo again. The alpha wasn’t a model or anything, but he was damn fine with piercing blue eyes and thick black hair.

 Frankie…

I yelped in surprise as Justin swiped left on the photo.

 “Next,” he declared.

“Y-yeah…” I replied, handing him back his phone. I swallowed. Not much swiping right would have done anyway, it was Justin’s profile.

I was almost tempted to make a profile of my own to see if I could find the handsome alpha again.

Maybe after Halloween, I thought to myself, when I’ll have a bit more time.

Still, even after Justin resumed his tales of the bad coffeeshop date, I couldn’t get those piercing blue eyes out of my mind.

 Chapter 4 - Frankie

Istared at the front windows of my business, glad that I’d given the go-ahead when my assistant had asked about having them painted. The display was bright and welcoming, even if most people called rather than walked in.

“Morning Frankie,” she said as I strolled in.

“Morning Jess,” I replied. “Those windows look great.”

She grinned and nodded. “I know, right? I got his card so that I can ask him back to do another for Christmas.”

 I chuckled. “Good plan.”

Jess had only been working for me a year, but knew how to bring lightness to an otherwise humdrum office.

“What’s my schedule for today?” I asked.

She turned to her computer. “Two site visits today. One in the morning, one in the afternoon. The morning is your typical residential property boundary dispute. Your afternoon is to meet with a contractor to discuss easements and details before commercial construction starts.”

I nodded. “You put all my research into the files?”

“Yep!” she chirped. “All the info is there.”

“Fantastic.” I looked around. “Is James running late today?”

She shook her head. “He had to stop by county records to grab some data. He’ll be in shortly.”
