I looked around, wondering if I could spot him in the crowd.

“Kay?” Justin asked.

“He’s here,” I breathed.

“Huh?”

I turned to face Justin, and he developed a worried expression.

“Jesus, Kay. Are you alright? You’re white as a ghost.”

“He’s here,” I repeated.

“Who’s here?”

I licked my lips. “My alpha.”

“Wait… what?”

I shook my head to clear my thoughts, then met his gaze. “I smelled him Justin, just now. My alpha, my mate. He’s here.”

“Are you sure? Maybe it’s a weird mix of competing colognes you’re smelling.”

I nodded. “It’s him. As sure as I know it’s you in front of me right now, I know that he’s here.”

“So which one is he?”

I looked around again, but there were so many people that it was impossible to even see half their faces. “I don’t know.”

“So…”

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, trying to pinpoint him. But no matter which way I turned the scent was about the same, and I realized that between the people coming in and moving around, and any air circulation, that I would have to find him the hard way.

“I’m gonna have to mingle,” I replied to Justin’s implied question.

He grinned. “You know what this means, right?”

“Hmm?”

“At least one of us is getting a knot.”

I burst into laughter. “Ass.”

“Yep.”

I shook my head, catching his double meaning. “I guess you were right about two cars.”

“You’re welcome.”

I grinned, then looked around again. “Ok. I need to find him, but not be an ass while mingling either.”

“Good luck. Think he’ll be looking for you too?”

“Dunno. Hope so.”

“Want me to do anything in particular?”

I set my hands on his shoulders and met his gaze. “Play interference. If I’m not blatantly flirting, keep the oblivious ones off me.”
