I nodded. “Okay…”

“And I suggested that we go as Aladdin and Jasmin.”

I held up my hands. “Wait, isn’t Jasmine supposed to be a girl?”

Sean shrugged. “It’s actually… kind of… a unisex name. Spelled with an ‘e’ at the end is for girls, and without is for boys.”

“Besides,” Lowell added. “When has anybody ever let character gender get in the way of a good costume idea?”

“Good point,” I replied. “So Aladdin and Jasmin…”

Sean nodded. “Good plan, except Genie is a big part of the story.”

“And that’s where I come in,” I guessed.

Sean nodded. “You’re our only single friend, and we didn’t think anybody else would want to potentially give up their couple’s costumes.”

I looked between them for a minute. “So let me get this straight. You two are going to be Aladdin and Jasmin, and you want me to be the genie?”

 “That’s it,” Sean confirmed.

I scratched my chin. “Ah, what the hell. I didn’t have anything better planned. I’m in.”

“Really?” Sean asked, huge smile on his face.

“Yes,” I replied, then took a deep breath. “But only if that’s your famous lasagne I’m smelling.”

Lowell burst into laughter. “I told you he’d do anything for your lasagne.”

“Not quite anything,” I objected. “I draw the line at felonies.”

 “Just felonies?” Lowell teased.

I took another breath. “Yeah, I think his lasagne is worth misdemeanors.”

 Sean smiled.

“Oh, one more thing,” I said.

 “What’s that?” Sean asked.

“I’m not painting my skin blue.”

He chuckled. “I think we can work with that.”

“Good,” I stated. “Let’s work out the details.”

Lowell squeezed my shoulder and Sean beamed at me.

It was silly, but I would do it for them.

 ~October 29th~

I looked at myself in the mirror and shook my head. “I’m gonna freeze my ass off.”

The costume was more revealing than I would have chosen for myself, especially given the time of year.
