I chuckled and gave him an exaggerated kiss on the cheek. “Come on. Let’s get you a costume.”

Chapter 8 - Frankie

“Fankie!” Nicky shouted, holding his little arms up in the way that told me he wanted to be picked up.

I laughed and grabbed him under his arms, swinging him back and forth several times until I settled him on my arm. “Heya rugrat.”

“Again!” he laughed, delight filling his voice.

“Not unless your papa says it’s ok.”

He gave me an exaggerated pout, but it quickly dissolved when I booped his nose.

“Fankie!” he protested, rubbing his nose.

“No pouting when I say no,” I chuckled. “Otherwise the boop-monster comes out.”

I held my finger out, ready to get his nose again.

“Nooo!” he squealed, squirming to get down.

I set him on his feet again, and laughed as he bounded off towards his room.

“Hello?” I called into the house, not having seen Sean or Lowell yet.

“I’m in the kitchen,” Sean called back. “I think Lowell’s in the bedroom.”

I walked into the kitchen and saw Sean feeding baby Lilia, who had some sort of orange mush all over her face.

“I’d kiss her, but I don’t wanna know what that—whatever that is—tastes like.”

Sean laughed. “It’s pretty nasty. I really don’t blame the little ones for not liking it, but I didn’t have time to make something on my own, so purchased it is.”

I pulled out a chair at the table and took a seat. “So what’s up? Lowell said you had a huge favor to ask.”

Pink dusted Sean’s cheeks as he tried to convince Lilia to take another bite. “Um…”

“He wants you to be the third in our group costume,” Lowell said from the doorway.

“Is that why I’m being buttered up with a homemade meal?”

Sean’s blush darkened.

“You know it,” Lowell laughed. “Especially when you find out what it is.”

I made eye contact with Sean, who looked away and was suddenly incredibly intent on feeding Lilia.

“Sean?” Lowell prompted.

“Will you be our Genie?” Sean blurted out.

“Huh?” I asked.

“Just at the party” Sean clarified. “You don’t need to come over for Halloween or anything.”

“I’m still stuck on the Genie part.”

Sean rubbed the back of his neck. “So I thought it would be fun for Lowell and I to have a couple’s costume.”
