“Thanks.”

We stared at it for another moment, then a small voice broke through.

“Papa! Papa!”

We turned to see a blond boy of maybe three running across the open plaza.

Sean knelt and scooped the boy into his arms as soon he was within reach. “You know you shouldn’t run alone, Nicky. Where’s Dad?”

The boy pointed back to where an alpha was striding across, another kid in his arms.

“Hey hon,” the alpha called. “Sorry. He saw you and took off.”

“I’ll forgive you this time,” Sean joked, leaning in for a kiss as his mate reached us. “You’re early.”

The alpha chuckled. “I’m meeting Frankie for lunch. He did the surveying for a new project and I want to go over any of his notes before we get on site to talk to the crew.”

“Makes sense.”

The alpha turned to me. “Lowell, by the way.”

“Kaleb,” I replied, holding out my hand.

“Nice to meet you,” he replied, giving me a firm shake. “This your work?”

I nodded.

“Looks good. I can see why Sean contacted you.”

“Thank you.”

“I’ve gotta go, love,” Lowell said, turning back to Sean. “See you at home.”

They shared another brief kiss, then Sean took the younger kid.

“Papa!” the one named Nicky cried, pointing at the painted windows.

Sean chuckled. “It’s cool isn’t it?”

“Yeah!”

“Kaleb here painted it.”

“Yay!” Nicky squealed before hugging my leg.

“Ummm…”

Sean laughed. “Kids, yanno?”

I smiled. “I’ll take your word for it.”

“Sorry,” he replied. “I guess I assumed…”

I laughed. “No worries. I think most people expect me to have kids by now.”

He gave me a smile, and seemed about to say something when Nicky spoke up again.

“Papa! ‘Laine!”
