“Mm-hmm,” he replied, just before a snore escaped him.

Tears sprang to my eyes. I could have searched the rest of my life for a man who would be capable of understanding me even half as well as he did. But there he was, real, and perfect, and mine.

Fate really had been looking out for me.

I kissed his shoulder one more time before wrangling a cover over us so that we could go to sleep.

 Chapter 23 - Corey

The London flat was almost eerily silent the morning after Nate claimed me. We’d slept in, him spooned behind me until we ended up kissing, then making love again. But by the time his knot released it was too late for another round.

Nate also noticed how quiet it was, but started laughing when he spotted a note next to a spread of fruit and pastries.

“What’s so funny, alpha-mine?” I asked, snuggling up against him.

“Henri left a note saying that he would be out this morning and gave the rest of the staff the morning off.”

 “Is that normal?”

“No. I don’t need to read between the lines to know that it was to give us privacy.”

I chuckled and grabbed a croissant. “Honestly, I’m kinda glad. I might live in an apartment, but that’s a bit different than…”

I waved my hand to indicate the flat and staff situation.

Nate pulled me into his arms. “You might need to get used to it, at least on some level.”

“Hmm?” I asked around a mouthful of croissant.

“We might not be married yet, but you’re my mate, which means… well… You’re kind of a billionaire now too.”

I coughed out bits of pastry, lamenting the loss. It was a fabulous croissant.

“Wait… you didn’t think about that?”

I thumped my chest with the palm of my hand to dislodge a couple crumbs stuck in my throat. “I guess I knew it on some level. But I hadn't really thought about it yet.”

He smiled and kissed the tip of my nose. “It’s ok, right?”

“I’m not going to be expected to dedicate my life to shopping and garden parties, am I?”

He laughed. “No. I would never do that to you. I’m going to talk to Papa about working remote, or only going into the office a couple days a week. Then I’m going to get us a house in Harris Cove.”

 “And my dog-walking?”

“As much or as little as you want. You mentioned hiring people, you could do that now.” He paused and cupped the side of my face. “You mean everything to me, and I want to support you in whatever you want to do.”

I smiled and threw my arms around him. I couldn’t ask for a better mate.

The rest of the London trip was too short, but Nate assured me that we’d be able to return whenever we wanted.

I spent more time exploring Kensington Gardens while he finished the business that had brought him there, and was happy when he informed me that he’d been able to salvage the contract.

There would be an internal investigation at his company to determine what went wrong, but he was leaving that up to his staff and his papa.

Saturday was spent at Nate’s side as we toured Buckingham Palace, then we caught a musical in the West End.
