I was panting, trying to figure out what organ my baby had kicked that time, when I heard Raven talking.

“It’s ok everybody. Wes is fine.”

I blinked. Of course I was fine. Then I felt it: dampness in my sweats.

I turned to her. “Did my…?”

She chuckled, nodded, and looked at Madison. “Maddie, honey, can you grab the phone for me? I need to call Wes’s mate so they can go to the hospital and Wes can have his baby.”

Madison scampered towards the desk and grabbed the phone, then rushed back with it while Raven helped me to a bench.

 “Trevor?” Raven asked.

 “Y-yes?”

“Can you bring me some paper towels from the bathroom?”

 “Ok.”

“Thanks,” I said as Raven helped me sit.

“No prob, that’s why I’m here, right?”

I laughed. “Yeah, but I expected you to have to take over via phone.”

“Eh, it’s more interesting this way.”

Raven quickly called José, then cleaned up the floor while the kids changed back to regular clothes.

“What are you going to do with the rest of the hour?” I asked, breathing through another contraction.

“I saw a few dance-themed kids books stowed in the desk. We’re going to have dance story-time.”

I nodded. “Sounds like a good plan. You know what to do for the dress rehearsal?”

“I’ve got it. They’re going to shine.”

 “I appreciate it.”

“No,” she laughed. “I should be thanking you. You gave me a chance as an assistant teacher. It means a lot.”

“You’ll be a great teacher. It’s a shame nobody else saw that, but I’m glad to have you here.”

 “Wes!”

I turned to see José standing in the door, panting.

 “I think it’s time, alpha-mine,” I said with a smile.

He rushed over and helped me to my feet.

“I’ll clean the floor better once the kids are gone,” Raven called from behind us.

 “Thank you!”

“May you have an easy delivery.”

“Hope so. I’ll see you on opening night.”
