I shook my head and turned to bury my face against his chest.

 Chapter 10 - José

“Oh my goodness, it’s packed!” Avery said as we waited to pay. “He’s sure to get some good funds for his studio.”

 “I hope so.”

He craned his neck to look around. “So which one is Wes?”

I chuckled. “You expect me to pick him immediately from a crowd like this?”

 “Of course.”

I handed Sean the money, then led Avery inside, trying to ignore the frown on Sean’s face.

 “Oh, is that him?”

 “Huh?” I asked.

Avery pointed. “You said he has red hair. Is that him?”

I looked in the direction he indicated, and saw Wes in the arms of another man.

I stumbled back as if somebody had punched me in the gut. Part of me wanted to turn and leave.

 “Are you ok?”

 “No.”

Avery looped his arm in mine and led me to a bench against one wall.

That was it. I’d lost him. Wes—my gorgeous omega—was now forever out of reach.

“I’m going to go get a couple of waters,” Avery offered.

I nodded and stared at the floor. Finally I took several breaths. I was there, and I was at least going to try to make it worth Avery’s time. He’d tried really hard to back off since we’d talked, and I wanted him to have a good evening.

A water bottle appeared in my field of vision. I looked up to see Avery holding it out for me.

 “Thank you,” I muttered.

He smiled then sat next to me. “Don’t lose hope yet. I think it’ll all work out.”

 “How do you know?”

 “Omega’s intuition.”

I wanted to hope, but my eyes told me that it was past time for it.

 Chapter 11 - Wes

Ineeded to focus on running the dance, but every time I looked out onto the floor I immediately saw José. Sometimes he was dancing with the gorgeous omega, other times just sitting on one of the benches lining the wall.

I was trying so hard to ignore his presence that it took me far too long to realize that the music had stopped.

I looked over to where Scott was playing DJ, and saw him holding a microphone and grinning.

“Thank you all for coming out tonight,” he began. “Are you having a good time?”
