Chapter 14 - Jordan
~End of February~
Iheld Theo’s hand as the ultrasound tech spread the gel on his bump, making him wince from the cold. We held our breath for a few seconds as the tech looked for our baby, then it was there in black and white.
“Well somebody’s cooperative today,” the tech laughed. “Not hiding at all, and even turned for a clear look.”
“So you can tell the gender?” Theo asked.
“Oh, yes,” she chuckled. “The doctor will go over everything with you in a few minutes. Let me just get a few measurements.”
Theo squeezed my hand. “Ok.”
The tech continued to move the wand over Theo’s bump, then declared that she’d gotten what they needed and left to get a doctor.
“Any guesses?” I asked as I helped him wipe the remaining traces of gel from his stomach.
“I’m thinking it’s a baby,” he joked.
I smiled and moved to kiss him. “I sure hope so.”
“It would be awkward if I’d gone this long and it wasn’t.”
“Especially since this isn’t your first ultrasound.”
He laughed. “Yeah, the doctor would have probably said something before now.”
“One would hope.”
There was a knock at the door, and we both turned as the doctor strode in.
“Good afternoon Theo, Jordan. Are we ready to find out what you’re having?”
“I’m hoping it’s a baby,” Theo repeated, which made the doctor laugh.
“Well, you’re lucky there. It is indeed a baby.”
“Good!” he joked. “Just one, right?”
“Just one,” the doctor chuckled. “Though something tells me you’ll be adding to the family soon enough.”
Theo looked over at me and smiled. “Gotta evict this one first.”
“Well, you’re about halfway there. Everything appears to be right on track, and your little one is healthy.”
“Good news,” I replied.
“Now, do you want to know what color to paint the nursery?”
I shared a glance with Theo, and he smiled.
“We already decided to paint it a sunny yellow, but it would help to know if we need to ask for dresses or pants for our shower.”
“I suggest filling your registry with the cutest dresses you can find,” the doctor replied with a grin.
Theo turned back to me, tears sparkling in his eyes. “We’re having a little girl.”
I leaned in and brushed my lips over his. “I just hope she’ll be halfway as gorgeous as you.”
