There was a knock at the bathroom door. “Theo? It’s Cody, can I come in?”

I grabbed a handful of tissue, wiped my face, and flushed it all away.

“Come in,” I said, slumping against the wall.

Cody walked in and sighed as he spotted me. Then he rummaged in a linen closet, pulled out a washcloth and wet it in the sink.

“Here,” he said, passing it to me before putting down the toilet lid and sitting on it.

“Thanks,” I mumbled, taking the cloth and wiping my face again.

He studied me, then ran a hand through his blond curls. “How far along are you?”

The blood drained from my face as I stared at him. “Wh-what?”

He shook his head. “Don’t you remember what set me off the first time? Chicken. That cheap, grocery-store rotisserie chicken that was my favorite. I’d been almost drooling thinking about how we were gonna have an omegas’ night while Wes was out of town. You, Corey, and I were gonna eat greasy chicken and watch movies. Then he opened that stupid plastic container and I bolted, just like you did a few minutes ago.”

I sighed, rested my head against the wall and closed my eyes. “The night of your wedding.”

“So… seven weeks?”

I nodded. “Yeah, sounds about right.”

He was quiet, so was I. The sounds of the small party filtered in from the kitchen, but all the magic was gone for me.

“Who’s the father?” Cody finally asked.

“Jordan.”

I expected Cody to be angry, to yell at me for being so irresponsible.

“You’re going to have to help the pregnant man back up off the floor,” he stated as he took a seat next to me and pulled me against his side.

“I’m pregnant too,” I replied, even as I sniffled from knowing how much he cared.

“You can still get up from the floor on your own.”

“Point.”

“You know what this means, don’t you?” he asked.

I can’t be in your lives as much. It’ll be too awkward whenever Jordan is around.

I shook my head.

He chuckled. “It means our kids will be as close as we are. They’ll be almost the same age, probably in the same grade in school.”

I wiped away a tear. “How are you not mad at me? I ruined everything.”

“What do you mean?”

I leaned against him. “I tried so hard. Jordan’s just so damn… perfect. But I knew that things would get weird if we got together and it didn’t work out. I didn’t want you and Wes to be in the middle of that kind of drama. So I told myself that he was off-limits.”

“What happened?”

“I…” I took a deep breath. “I must have walked into the wrong guest room that night. I couldn’t remember which one, and chose the second. But I was all sorts of wound up after dancing with him all night, and I decided to let off some steam… if you know what I mean.”

“Mm-hmm…”
