He gave me a confused look. “No, but you might be.”

“Huh?”

“Your heat? Isn’t it next week?”

I frowned and grabbed my cell phone. I opened my heat tracking app and groaned. He was right. I’d been so engrossed with the wedding preparations that I’d lost track of time.

No wonder I couldn’t focus. I was always a bit scatterbrained right before my heat. Combined with my lingering feelings for Jordan it was a miracle that I could work at all.

I sighed, leaned back and stared up at the ceiling. “I guess I didn’t realize how close it was.”

“No prob,” he chuckled. “You’ve been busy. Plus, heat brain is a real bitch. I wonder how I manage to function at all right before mine.”

I smiled. “At least you get it.”

“Alphas never understand, do they?”

I shook my head. “Nope.”

“So, back to the topic. Anything important going on? I know it’s November now, and we’re pretty much just treading water until spring, but I’m hoping we have a couple indoor parties.”

“You’re in luck,” I replied. “We’ve got three indoor birthday parties.”

“Want me to take them all?”

I shrugged. “Might as well, and anything that comes up last-minute.”

“Any office work?”

I scratched my chin. “Maybe start checking the certifications of our regulars. I’d like everybody to be current by March, that way we don’t have any problems heading into summer.”

“We should get a couple more people certified to do beachfront events,” Justin added.

I nodded. “Billionaire Row does seem to be filling up with a younger crowd, and their guests don’t always stick to the pools. Good call.”

“I’ll get a list of people we should consider for that.”

“There’s time.”

“Plenty if there are only three parties.”

I laughed. “Ok, ok. I’ll leave the office in your hands next week. Alan’s been asking me to come in and mentor at the incubator anyway.”

“I’ll call if I get busy.”

“You’ll probably start getting calls about holiday parties, but that’s about all I expect. We’re only there out of an abundance of caution anyway, most people aren’t looking to swim, they just don’t want to be liable if a guest gets drunk and falls in a pool.”

“So only schedule one person per party?”

“Use your judgment based on the number of guests.”

“Got it.”

“Anything else?”

“Not unless you have something.”

I shook my head. “I would have forgotten my heat is due next week if you hadn’t reminded me. So I think we’re good.”
