“Did I miss something?” I asked when I caught him staring.
He shook his head. “No, sorry.”
“Ready to do the prince thing again?” I asked, searching for a reason to keep talking to him.
Sean grimaced. “Not really.”
“Oh…”
Was he planning to make some changes? That didn’t seem right though. His tone was more one of one who wasn’t looking forward to a task.
I forced a smile. “I’m sure you’ll be ready in time.”
“Yeah,” he sighed, then turned to head the same direction as everybody else. “See ya around Lowell.”
My heart sank. I’d obviously said the wrong thing. “See ya Sean.”
I watched him walk away, mentally kicking myself.
Even if I didn’t have a chance, I could at least be a good friend, and I felt like I’d let him down in some way. I’d have to find something better to talk about.
