Chapter 15 - Cody

I’d been an idiot, and almost lost my mate. I’d tried to drive him away, and now I knew how much more painful his absence could have been.

His hand draped over mine on the center console and he squeezed my fingers. “It’s ok Cody,” he said softly.

“How did you know?” I asked, not taking my eyes from the road.

“For not saying a word, your thoughts are etched pretty loudly across your face.”

“Most people say I’m pretty impassive.”

“They just haven’t bothered to get to know you then, because I find you quite expressive.”

I smiled. Of course he would be the one to see things about me.

“Do you want to rest once we reach where you’re staying?” I asked.

“Only if by rest, you mean cuddle while waiting for my knot to go down.”

I shivered. Now that all of me had accepted that I’d be mating Wes, my dreams had only ramped up, and his mention of a knot had my cock on full alert.

“You like that thought?” he asked, leaning across the center to breathe in my ear.

I whined. “Tone it down, or I’ll crash the car.”

He chuckled. “That would be a shame. I’d rather not go back to the hospital, not when claiming you sounds so much better.”

We were really doing this, and I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and terror in my gut. Of course I wanted a mate, and babies, and a life full of love. But the part of me that had always been scared of loss hadn’t fully quieted.

Wes squeezed my hand. “It’ll be ok Cody. I promise.”

I nodded. “I… I trust you. It’s just…”

“I know.”

“It’ll take me a while to get over it.”

“Will a therapist help?”

I blinked. It was something I’d never considered. “I don’t know.”

“We can discuss it later. There’s no need to carry so much fear.”

“I’ll have to see if it’s covered by my insurance.”

Wes started laughing, and for a moment I was confused. Then my cheeks heated with a blush.

“I don’t think it’ll be an issue,” he said.

“I guess not.”

I turned onto Cliffside, and soon we reached Billionaire Row.

“You know… I actually consulted a realtor,” Wes said.

I glanced at him. “You did?”

He nodded, then I turned my attention back to the road. “There was no way I was going to be able to live in another city, not with you here.”
