Chapter 10 - Wes

It wasn’t much—and I would have preferred to ditch the scent blockers—but it was something. I was going to spend the day with Cody, and hope that it went well enough that he’d allow me to keep tagging along.

Everything in me still demanded that I wrap him in my arms, kiss him senseless, then drag him to bed. My dreams were filled with visions of him round with our first baby, on the way to becoming a happy family.

I just had to trust that we’d get there. He had cold feet, but there was time. I’d convince him that I was the man for him.

If fate scared him, then I’d take fate out of the equation. I’d win him the right way.

I pulled a strip from the package and pressed it under my nose, growling instinctively at the way it deadened the scents around me. I wanted to smell Cody, breathe in his unique fragrance. But that wasn’t allowed, for now.

Soon I’d be able to bury my face in his neck and savor it though, run my hands down his sides and appreciate his beauty.

My cock hardened at the thought of having Cody in my arms, and I had to control my imagination.

Professional…I reminded myself.Don’t scare him off.

That was enough to make my cock deflate. I’d break if he ran again. I already needed him more than I ever thought I’d need another person, and I wouldn’t be able to bear rejection a second time.

I adjusted the collar of my shirt, then grabbed my things to head out.

I was almost to the rented car when my phone rang.

 “This is Wes,” I answered.

“Hey,” said Jordan. “Haven’t heard from you in a few days. Was wondering if you’re still alive up there.”

I chuckled. “I am, but I don’t know when I’ll be back in the office.”

“Not a problem. You’ve got some remote meetings early next week, but otherwise we’re handling things well down here.”

 “Good to hear.”

 “Any progress with your omega?”

I sighed. “He’s talking to me?” I tried, wondering if that counted as progress. “And his name is Cody. We’re going to be working together today, but we’re both supposed to wear scent-blockers.”

 “Ew.”

“Agreed. But if it makes him more comfortable, then I’ll do it.”

“Any clue as to why he’s fighting it?”

“No more than last time we talked. It’s just something he’s always been against, but even his friends don’t seem to know why.”

“I see. Well, I’ll forward the details for the remote meetings to you, and let you get on with your day then.”

“Thanks for holding down the fort while I’m away.”

“No problem, but it does make me wonder…”

 “What does?”

“Things have been going rather well around here. I’m wondering if we need all this office space. The work can be done remotely, and the building is a lot of overhead. Maybe we could scale back and be office-optional.”

“Hmm…” I mused. “I don’t want to think about it right now, but put it on as an agenda item for later.”

 “Will do.”
