“You know that’s still not a sure thing.”
“I’m not going to turn celibate just because of that small chance. I’m going to enjoy life, and when I do meet my alpha, he’s going to find an omega who’s happy with the way he’s lived until then.”
I smiled. Theo really did have a good outlook on life.
“There it is,” he said softly. “About time you smiled.”
“Sorry, it really was just a rough day.”
“Something to drink hun?” a female voice asked.
I looked up and nodded. “Strawberry margarita please.”
“ID?”
Theo laughed at me as I reached for my wallet. “Cody’s babyface strikes again.”
“Yeah, yeah,” I mumbled as I pulled out my license and handed it over. “Laugh it up. When you’re frowning at wrinkles, I’ll still be being carded.”
“Better you than me,” he retorted. He turned to the waitress. “I’ll have a rum and coke.”
“ID?” she asked again, this time with a smirk.
I laughed as Theo gave her a shocked look. Then he chuckled. “I walked right into that one, didn’t I?” he asked as he handed it over.
“Sure did.” She nodded, then handed the cards back before heading off to put in our order.
“I can’t believe she carded me,” Theo said as he slid the ID back into his wallet.
“Enjoy it while you can. Thirty is only a couple years away. One day you’ll realize that it’s been a while since somebody last asked for ID, and then will feel old.”
“Naw,” he laughed. “Grocery stores now require them for everybody. I saw some lady who had to be in her eighties get carded the other day.”
“I don’t know if that argument exactly helps.”
He waved it away. “Age is just a number anyway, it’s how old you feel that matters.”
“I’ll take your word for it,” I sighed.
He laughed, then leaned in. “Ok Cody. You’ve got five minutes to bitch about this day from hell, then we’re going to put it aside and have fun. That way you wake up tomorrow in a good mood, rather than festering on whatever shit happened today.”
I smiled again. For as different as Theo and I seemed at times, he knew how to make me feel better.
Who needed an alpha when I had a friend like him?
