I sighed and changed the subject, not wanting to discuss it further. “Mitchell’s?”

There was a brief pause, then, “We’ve been there a lot lately. How about The Tipsy Surfer?”

“You just wanna look for hot alphas.”

“As if a knot wouldn’t take your mind off things.”

“Knothead surfer boys seem more your speed than mine.”

“Come on, when was the last time you let a gorgeous man take you to bed?”

I took off my glasses, set them on the desk and closed my eyes before scrubbing a hand down my face. “It’s not my fault I haven’t found a man who can satisfy me. I don’t wanna deal with one night stands that leave me more sexually frustrated than I was before.”

“Fated mate,” he sing-songed, and I cringed.

“Maybe drinks is a bad idea…”

“Fine. Third Street. More eye candy than Mitchell’s, but not the abundance of alpha surfers that the Tipsy has.”

I thought about it. “That’ll do.”

“Great! See ya after work.”

“See ya.”

I hung up, leaned back in my chair and stared up at the ceiling. Then an email notification from the computer caught my attention. I turned to it and groaned.

“Cody!”

I looked around the crowded bar and spotted a familiar head of brown hair sitting at a booth. I squeezed through the throng and took a seat across from Theo.

“What’s with all the people?” I asked as his ever-present smile widened at seeing me.

He shrugged. “They all look pretty young, and it’s about that time. I think college has started letting out for the summer.”

I glanced at the customers. “You may be right. But don’t let me hear about you going home with a baby alpha.”

He laughed. “They’re good for a romp, but I’m old enough to appreciate somebody who knows how to treat a man right.”

“How come I have the feeling that it won’t stop you from looking?”

“Because it won’t. I might not let them knot me, but I will appreciate all the effort they put into looking good.”

“You’re incorrigible.”

“I just want to enjoy life before I find my mate. I see no reason to deprive myself.”

I shook my head. “Just don’t end up pregnant.”

“Don’t worry, I’m always careful,” he said, then knocked on the wooden table a couple times.

“Sure about that?”

He grinned. “Positive. I’m on the pill, and I always have the alpha wrap it.”
