“Donna and I tried to replicate it last week, but we only got it to happen once.”

I nodded. “It seemed pretty inconsistent.”

“We’ll figure out what’s causing it though,” he assured me.

My alpha is going to fix things…

I needed to not think like that. We were going to go over the bugs and he was going to go home. That was it. He wasn’t staying in Harris Cove, and I wasn’t chasing him.

I’d find love on my own, not on fate’s terms.

“Cody?”

I blinked, and realized that I’d gotten lost in my thoughts. “Sorry.”

He smiled. “It’s ok. I was asking if you’d noticed any pattern to the calendar issue?”

I shook my head. “It’s not been a consistent enough problem for me to pin down anything.”

He frowned. “Do you happen to have a list of known and suspected incidents?”

“I don’t, but I can probably make one.”

“Please do. I can’t start looking for patterns until we can get a better idea of what causes it.”

“Ok, it’ll probably be tomorrow before I can get that for you.”

“That’s fine.”

“You should come by before lunch if possible. I normally do property checks on Tuesday afternoons so that I can order any additional services if needed before people start arriving for the weekend. Plus leave customer reviews for the sites that use them.”

“That’s great, actually,” he replied. “I was hoping to join you as you work, both here and in the field.”

I blinked several times. “You… want to do more than just get bug data?”

He nodded. “Right now you’re the most robust user of the app, but the vacation rental field is growing. If I can observe how you interact with the app, we can make improvements that will benefit all users. Besides, bugs can happen anywhere. It’s better if I’m there to see what’s going on in real time, rather than you trying to recreate it on demand.”

It made sense, but it also meant far more time with him than I’d planned.

I swallowed. “You’ve… gotten Donna’s approval?”

He nodded. “I have. But… considering the circumstances…”

He didn’t need to finish the sentence. He was leaving it to me.

Say no…the logical part of me insisted, while the rest of me was overjoyed at the thought of more time with him.

I needed to tell him no. But even as I tried to say it, I knew I couldn’t.

He was still my alpha, no matter how much I was fighting it.

“Ok,” I whispered, squeezing my eyes closed.

Silence followed my statement, and I opened my eyes again after several seconds to see him grinning at me.

“Scent blockers stay on though,” I demanded.

“Deal.”
