His words swirled in my mind as I carried the cooler into the kitchen, hugged my aunt, and turned to head home.

“Earth to Dom.”

I blinked, then realized that Brian was trying to talk to me. “Sorry, what?”

He laughed. “I asked for ya to hand me those gravestones.”

“Oh… ok.”

I grabbed the cart filled with foam gravestones and rolled it over to him.

“I’d ask,” he said. “But I have the feelin’ that you’re thinkin’ bout that omega.”

I smiled, remembering the texts and phone calls that Scott and I had exchanged over the previous few days. It seemed that neither of us could go a day without reaching out. We’d even gotten dangerously close to phone sex, with me only stopping things because I still wanted to be with him physically when I came.

He laughed. “Red-handed. Don’t even try to deny it. That look on your face proves that you’re thinkin’ about ‘im.”

I laughed. “Yeah, yeah. Just wait until you find an omega. Then I’ll get to tease you back.”

He scoffed. “I’ve already got the cutest lady-omega. Been seein’ her since high school.”

“First I’m hearing of it.”

He laughed. “She’s off at college. The long-distance thing sucks, but it’s worth it to see her so happy. She got into her dream program, and has her eye on a job back here once she graduates.”

“Hopefully she gets it then.”

He grinned, a dreamy look crossing his face. “I know she will. Then we’ll be able to make proper plans for the future.”

“How much longer does she have?”

“Just about a year and a half.”

“Not too long then.”

He shook his head. “Nope, though it still feels like an eternity. I can’t wait till she’s home for the holidays.”

“You’ll have to introduce me.”

“Of course.”

“Hey,” called a voice from the entrance to the barn. “Hurry with the gravestones. This is a timed run.”

“Oh, right,” Brian muttered. “Coming!”

He turned and rushed from the barn while I pulled the next group of props out.

Other members of the extended family and employees came and went, grabbing the props as I set them out. The barn quickly emptied except for the large equipment, and I already wasn’t looking forward to putting everything back and keeping it orderly in the morning.

“Head out Dom,” called uncle Robert. “Changeover is almost done and we can bring back the empty carts. Go get your man.”

“You sure?” I asked.

“You’ve been in the sun all day. Go shower. Show ‘im that ya clean up good.”

I laughed. “Are you saying I’m dirty?”
