Everything in me wanted to go to his side; to console him now that he and Madison had been reunited. Instead I turned away.

“What does everybody need from the main farm? I’ll do the afternoon run.”

Robert studied me. “You’re not gonna go over there? I bet he’d like to thank ya.”

I shook my head. “This is their time. I’d just be in the way.”

“If ya say so…”

I didn’t want to admit that if I stayed, I’d have a hard time not flirting with the handsome man, and the last thing he needed right then was an alpha trying to get into his pants.

“Brian’s out front, and it looks pretty busy back here,” I replied. “I was gonna take a break anyway, so it makes sense for me to find out what everybody needs, then go get it.”

He shook his head. “If that’s what ya wanna do. I’ll let everybody know to have their list ready for ya.”

“Thanks,” I replied.

I turned back to the reunion, and saw the omega—Scott—looking at me.

I wanted to go to him, pull him into my arms, and promise that everything would always be ok when I was around.

Instead I smiled and tipped my hat, then headed off to the cider booth off to one side. They were reunited, and I didn’t need to intrude beyond that.

I glanced up at the sound of gravel in the parking lot, and hid my disappointment when a family with two moms and three children got out of a minivan.

It was stupid, but the alpha part of me kept hoping to see the omega from the day before. Apparently he’d been looking for me after I left, wanting to thank me in person. But he was already gone by the time I returned that afternoon.

Brian had said something about him mentioning that he would try to come by another day, but it could also have just been the younger alpha teasing me.

Still, I wanted to see the gorgeous omega again, and realized just what a colossal mistake I’d made in leaving rather than sticking around. With a population of nearly half a million people, the chances of running into him again in Valle Granja were extremely low.

I felt like I’d missed my chance, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

A hand squeezed my shoulder. I looked up to see my uncle Robert standing there.

“Head home Dom,” he said.

“Why?”

“Do ya want the truth, or the polite answer?”

“Uh…”

He sighed. “Ya haven’t taken a day off since ya moved back to town. I appreciate the help, but aren’t ya supposed to be setting up your practice? Take a break.”

“Why do I have the feeling that’s the polite answer?”

He crossed his arms. “Because it is. You've been distracted since yesterday, and I think I know why. Sunday evenings are slow, so are Mondays. Take the rest of today and tomorrow off. Get that omega out of your head.”

I sighed. He’d seen right through me.

“Tell ya what, I’ll even give him your number if he decides to come around again.”

I took off my hat and ran my hand through my hair. “Come back Tuesday?”

He nodded. “I’d say take more time, but we need to start prepping for the haunted maze nights. We’re gonna place everything on Tuesday, then practice setup and teardown on Wednesday until we’ve got it down in under an hour. Thursday we’re gonna do a soft runthrough. We’ll switch over the maze late afternoon and have all the actors in place that evening so we can work out any final kinks before it officially starts Friday night.”
