“Did you have any questions Mr. Beischel?” Victor asked as we approached the end of the interview, and I realized I’d paid more attention to Mr. West than the process.

I licked my lips. “You had a successful career as a restaurant chef. What made you decide to switch to private cooking?”

He smiled. “It was always a dream of mine to be a private chef, but I wasn’t in a good place in my life for that. Things recently changed, and I decided that it was time to make my dream a reality.”

I wanted to ask what had kept him from it before, and what had changed, but a look from Victor told me that to continue along that line of questioning was too personal. It had nothing to do with the job. Mr. West had given a reason for the change, and I could either accept it or reject it.

I turned the remainder of the interview back to Victor, and he wrapped it up only a few minutes later. We both shook Mr. West’s hand again, then I watched the handsome omega as he was escorted out.

“What was that?” Victor asked as he returned and took a seat across from me.

 “What was what?” I replied.

One of his eyebrows went up. “I know you better than that Alan. He probably didn’t notice, but I sure did. I don’t think I’ve seen you react to an omega like that in years.”

I ran a hand through my hair. “I wish you’d warned me that he was an omega.”

“Why? It’s not as if you’ve ever had an issue with omega employees before.”

He was right, of course. As long as my staff did their jobs well, I didn’t care if they were male or female, alpha, beta, or omega.

“Maybe it has been too long,” I sighed. “He is quite attractive, and my alpha side took notice.”

Victor smiled. “And here I thought you were a confirmed bachelor.”

 I laughed. “I am.”

“I wouldn’t mind seeing you settle down with a nice omega though. You need something good in your life, especially after the past two years.”

I sighed. “Nobody wants an old man like me.”

He snorted. “Fifty-one is hardly old, and plenty of people find love in the second half of their lives. If you want a partner, then all you need to do is look for one. We could even hire a matchmaking service to streamline the process.”

I shook my head. “I appreciate it, but I think I’m too set in my ways. No omega is going to want to try to fit themselves into my life.”

 “Are you sure about that?”

I rubbed at a temple. “Yeah.”

He nodded and straightened. “Shall we review and decide who we want to hire, or do you want to sleep on it?”

“We can discuss personal assistants tomorrow. I already know who I want as my chef.”

 “Oh?”

“I want to offer the position to Mr. West.”

Victor nodded. “I’ll inform him shortly, once he’s had a chance to drive home.”

 “Thank you.”

Victor stood. “If there’s nothing else you need, I should review maid applications.”

 “Go ahead.”

He strode out, leaving me alone.

I was playing with fire, hiring a man I was so attracted to. But now that I’d met him, I couldn’t imagine not having David West in my life, even if he was just my chef.
