“Eddie says that they’re ready.”

“Thank you,” I said, taking one more look at myself in the mirror.

He walked over, inspected my suit, and nodded. “I never thought I’d see this day.”

I smiled. “Me neither.”

“Your parents would be proud if they were here,” he said. “So would Clarence and Virginia.”

“I know. They always said that I needed to find a nice omega.”

“Are you sure about inviting Robert?”

I sighed. “No, but he is family. Did he actually show up?”

“Thankfully not. However I am on alert for any of his shenanigans.”

I shook my head. “He wouldn’t dare. The news has only finally started to let up on him. If he tried something at my wedding and the media got wind of it, he’d be in trouble all over again.”

“You’re right. It’s just me being overcautious.”

I nodded. “Today’s a happy day, and you’re here as my friend and best man. Let’s focus on the future, not on the bad times.”

He smiled. “I’m looking forward to the patter of small feet running through the house.”

“Me too.”

“Shall we?”

“Yeah.”

I followed Victor out to my patio, where guests had assembled for the intimate wedding. On my side sat a few friends and a smattering of people from my extended family. David’s side had his son-in-law and his new grandbaby, a few friends from his hometown, and a couple omegas, their mates, and children he’d met after moving in with me.

He’d been thrilled to meet the omegas and their newborns, insisting that it was important for our child to have local friends to play with. Everybody from my family with children focused on structure and play-dates, but looking at David’s Samantha and how she’d turned out, I thought he might have a better plan.

I took my spot next to the officiant, then it was only a couple minutes until the string orchestra started. Victor stood next to me, part of our unconventional wedding.

Then David appeared, radiant in a cream-colored suit, showing a slight baby bump, and with Samantha on his arm. Both were beaming, and laughing at a shared joke as they approached.

I wasn’t just gaining an omega, but his loving family as well.

“Who presents this omega to be wed?” the officiant asked.

Samantha grinned. “I do, his daughter.” She turned to me. “This is when some might make a shovel speech, but I see how ridiculously happy you make my papa, so just keep that smile on his face.”

Everybody laughed as Samantha leaned in to kiss David’s cheek. “Congratulations papa,” she said, then took a place at his side as his attendant of honor.

It was unusual, the person giving away the omega also taking on the honor role, but that was how important she was in his life, and I would have it no other way.

I took David’s hands in mine and lost myself in his gaze—in the beauty of the man that I’d waited so long to find.

“Alan?” he whispered.

“Hmm?”

“It’s time for you to pay attention and do the talking part.”

“I’d prefer if it was the kissing part,” I teased, loving the way his cheeks darkened with a blush.
