I sighed. “Yeah…”
“Great! So I’m leaving New York in the morning, had a quick trip back to family HQ for a shareholders meeting, and I was thinking of stopping in for brunch on the way back to California. Are you free tomorrow around lunchtime?”
I blinked as an idea started to take hold. “Jessalynn… I need your help.”
Chapter 6 - Cadence
The tie felt like a noose around my neck.
I hadn’t been in Harris Cove for two days before I’d been ordered back to Chicago for a meeting with an omega from a wealthy family.
It was all happening far too quickly for my liking, but I knew that further arguments from me would only cause my parents to become even more entrenched in their position.
No, the best option was to hope that if I did have a fated mate, this was how we were supposed to meet.
There was a knock at my door, and I turned towards it. “Come in.”
Papa strode in and walked over to me. He eyed me for a couple seconds, adjusted my tie, then reached up and set his hands on my shoulders. “I’m glad to see you taking this seriously.”
“I don’t like being forced into mating meetings, but this omega and his family deserve respect.”
He nodded and stepped back. “Are you ready?”
I returned the nod. “I am.”
“Good,” he said, turning towards the door. “Did your dad give you any information?”
I followed him out of my condo bedroom, down the hall and to my private elevator entrance. “No. He did not.”
“The man you’re meeting today is Isaiah Starling. His papa is the current CEO of Starling Control Systems, his dad is on the boards of several charities and at least one college.”
“His papa is the CEO?” I asked, not used to the omega being the one in charge.
Papa nodded. “He was an only child, and inherited the company. His husband was second-in-line for his family’s company, and he seemed content to take a back seat. He even took his omega’s family name, rather than the other way around.”
“I see.”
“Isaiah is twenty-five, and travels the world as a social media influencer. Apparently he holds a business degree, but decided not to go into the family business.”
“What about the company?”
“His older brother, Nate, is in line to take over once his papa retires.”
“So he felt free to do his own thing.”
“It’s perfect, really,” papa continued as we stepped onto the elevator. “He doesn’t have any real obligations, so can start a family immediately.”
“Social media influencer is a real job papa. Depending on what he does, he might be quite busy.”
Papa chuckled. “From what I understand, he just travels the world and takes photos of himself in exotic places.”
I bit my tongue, rather than get into an argument with papa about that being real work if done right. But I did mentally file away the information so that I could at least be polite and ask the omega… Isaiah… relevant questions about his work, rather than demean it.
“Anything else I need to know?” I asked as the elevator let us out in the lobby.
“Isaiah has a condo in San Francisco, but only lives there about half the time due to the frequency of his travel. According to the bio he has friends in the area, and may be reluctant to leave.”
“You’ve already got me on remote work,” I replied. “And dad shows no sign of retiring soon. If I do end up with this omega, then I’m sure we can work something out.”
