He blinked. “Starling. Isaiah Starling. Why?”

I started laughing and dropped my head onto his shoulder.

 “What’s so funny?”

I kissed his bare skin. “Oh, omega mine, did you ever learn the name of the alpha you were supposed to meet the other day?”

“Of course not! I bailed as soon as…” he paused. “Wait… I didn’t tell you about that.”

I shook my head, shaking from holding my laughter in. “No, you didn’t.”

 “Does that mean?”

I nodded again. “I’m the alpha you stood up, darling.”

 “How did you find me?”

I shook my head and kissed the spot next to his mark, making him shiver. “Fate. My parents thought sending me away from the city to keep me out of trouble was what they had to do. I’d just returned from Chicago about an hour before we met.”

 “Wow…”

I chuckled. “My parents are already mad at you for the disappearing act. But I think it’s hilarious.”

“You’re really ok with me having stood you up?” he asked, a nervous tone to his voice.

I kissed just behind his ear and started grinding my knot into him. “I want a mate who’s not afraid to stand up for himself. And you proved that you’ll do what it takes.”

Zaya moaned. “How are you hard again?”

“Because you’re just too damn sexy.”

He rolled his hips back against me, and by the time my knot finally went down we were more than ready to go another round.

 Chapter 11 - Zaya

Both Cadence’s and my parents were glaring at me, but I didn’t care. I was seated on my alpha’s lap where I belonged.

“This is completely irresponsible,” papa declared.

 “I agree,” stated Cadence’s father.

Cadence’s arm tightened around my middle. “It’s not up for debate. We’re fated mates, he’s already wearing my mark, and with any luck we’ll be announcing a pregnancy soon.”

“Don’t you remember how he didn’t even have enough respect to attend a mating meeting?” his papa demanded.

“What I remember,” Cadence growled, “was you forcing me to attend a meeting upon threat of cutting me off. I remember you sending me out here with the intention of keeping me out of trouble without bothering to listen to my side of an attempted extortion scheme.”

I nodded, buoyed by my alpha’s presence. “I wasn’t asked to attend the meeting either. It was forced upon me, and I chose not to participate.”

“But he didn’t even have the respect to…” Cadence’s father started.

“He respected himself!” Cadence growled, cutting him off. “Which is more than I can say about anybody else here.”

I smiled and leaned against him, weaving our fingers together over my stomach. I knew it was far too early to tell, but something told me that the first spark of new life had already taken place inside me.

Cadence sighed and kissed my neck. “I don’t see what the fuss is. Zaya is the man who the matchmaker that you hired scheduled a meeting with. Nothing about that has changed. As far as I’m concerned, you're all throwing a fit because he didn’t blindly obey. But the end result is the same. We’re mated and will soon be starting a family together.”

“What about this influencer thing?” his father asked.
