TWENTY-SIX
HUNTER
I deservea goddamn medal for keeping my hands to myself on the drive back to the house. I want to reach over and touch Max, but I know if I do, I’m going to crash this car.
And hurting her is the last thing I want to do.
She’s practically squirming in the passenger seat, her eyes darting over to me and her palms smoothing over her jeans. Every few minutes she clears her throat, and I glance at her when we pull up to a red light.
“Are you doing okay, angel?” I ask, and she huffs.
“That’s one way to put it.”
“Having second thoughts?”
“Not at all. I’m just excited. Nervous.” Max laughs. “I also can’t believe I found a guy who wants to try all of these things with me. I doubt it would be easy to meet someone for a cup of coffee and let it slip I want them to stalk me through dark and deserted woods. They’d look at me like I was crazy.”
“You’re the furthest thing from crazy.” I test my self-restraint by touching her leg. I rub my thumb up her thigh and accelerate when the light turns green. “I hope it’s clear by now I’ll try anything you want, angel.”
“When do I get to touchyourass?”
“Whenever you want, but not tonight. Tonight is about you.” I turn onto my road and slow my speed. “We’re unlocking more of your kinks, not mine.”
“What are some of your fantasies?”
“Anything involving you,” I say, and she laughs again.
“I’ve spilled my guts to you! You can give mesomething, Hunter.”
“Fine. My most recent fantasy is fingering you so hard, you squirt. I want you to drench my bed, my face, I don’t care. I just want to watch, because I think it’s one of the hottest things in the world.”
Max sucks in a sharp breath. “I’ve never—I don’t know how I would?—”
“I do. We’ll try tonight and see what happens.”
“I don’t want to ruin your sheets.” Max unbuckles her seatbelt when I park in the driveway. “Ilikeyour sheets.”
“Baby, you can ruin anything you want.”
“We can try, but don’t get your hopes up. I’ve never been close to experiencing that before. I doubt I’ll be able to.”
“Sometimes the journey is even better than the destination.” I grin when she reaches over and flicks my ear. “Let’s go. We have things to do.”
“Is Leo home tonight?”
“Why? Do you want him to join us?”
“No.” She blushes a furious shade of red and practically leaps out of the car. “I was just curious.”
“Do you want two people to chase you through the woods, Max?”
“I’m not sure I can even handle one.” Max looks out at the land behind my house and shivers. “It’s even darker than I thought it would be. I’m not going to be able to see a thing, am I?”
“No.” I grin and climb out of the car, locking it behind us. I wrap my arms around her waist, nudging her toward the porch. “But I will. Working in haunted houses for years and given me very good night vision.”
“That’s unfair. I’m at a disadvantage.”
“You were always going to be a disadvantage, baby. But that’s what you want, isn’t it? You don’t want to think you’re going to outrun me. You want to know you’re going to be caught.”
