"Welcome to our village, Emma."
"Thank you, Kallena. You are very kind."
After breakfast, Kallena asks if I would like to go sightseeing around the village. I say yes so we get ready and leave the hut behind. We walk down a path surrounded by trees and plants. There's a small creek running alongside us. The sky is bright blue and the sun feels warm on my skin.
"How old are you?" I ask Kallena.
"I'm forty.” She says this calmly. It makes me feel less nervous about asking questions.
We reach the edge of the forest where a large field stretches out before us. On one side is a rocky mountain and on the other a cliff. In front of the mountain is a huge lake, which reflects the mountains.
I jump into the cool water and swim around with Kallena for a while. When we're done swimming, we get back onto dry land and continue talking. It’s nice to have someone to talk to in this place.
Kallena tells me all about the village, the people, and how things work. She doesn't seem surprised that I don't know anything about this world or her people. This helps ease my worries.
"Can I ask you something?" I say after a while.
"Of course," she says.
"Are you scared of Dhakar?"
"No," she laughs. "Why should I be? He's my leader. You should not fear him. I can see the way he looks at you.”
I blush and look away, embarrassed by what she said.
"Don't worry," she goes on. "He won't hurt you unless you give him reason to. If you were to defy him, he would punish you but only as a last resort. You must never cause him distress. That is his job."
"But he looks scary," I whisper.
Her laugh is deep and throaty. "That is just the way he is. But you will soon find out that he is a caring man underneath it all."
I smile and roll my eyes. As if I cared about him anyway. He’s just a jerk who wants to fuck me.
"Dhakar is very protective of you. Do not forget that. He likes you."
I sigh. "I don't understand why he wants to mate with me though. I'm human."
"Well, it's simple really. He likes your scent. He always wanted a mate but there aren't any fertile females here so he had no choice but to take a female of another species."
"What if I refuse to mate with him?"
"You cannot refuse. It is an order given by our leader. He also owns you. He is in charge."
I frown. "And what happens if I don't obey orders?"
Kallena shrugs. "Then Dhakar will punish you," she says seriously.
I shiver and shake my head.
"So do you want to mate with him?" She asks.
I look up into her eyes. "No," I reply quietly.
She laughs. "I knew that answer was coming." She places a hand on my cheek. "Look, Dhakar is a good man. He'll make you happy if you let him. I promise you that. Just relax and enjoy yourself. If you have any more concerns, tell me."
I nod. "Yes, I will. Thank you, Kallena."
Kallena hugs me. She seems nice and caring. I like her.
